Hey, all.
Yesterday when I turned on my computer I noticed I wasn't connected to the Internet. Normally whenever I start up the old PC it is automatically connected because of my router. Well, this is no longer happening, neither my main PC or the secondary PC is connected anymore. Although, the DSL modem show a solid green light as does my router, for both computers, as if they are connected. I have a SMC 4-port router model SMC7004ABR, no hardware or software changes have been made on either PC whatsoever. Now, I know it's not a bad wire or anything because I am still able to connect from my PC to the other one and vice versa. I am also able to connect to the Internet by bypassing the routher all together and hooking the modem up directly to my PC. I can't, however, access the router's firmware through my Browser anymore. I really don't know what the heck is going on here, is my router somehow partially not working? Or, is it possible that my ISP doesn't allow multiple computers to share the same IP anymore? Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

There should be a way to do a full reset (check the manual) Have you done that too?

have you not got a manual? there is always a configuration and firmware flashing option via the built in router menus, that ip in my post above is normally the log in IP, or 192.168.0.0 if you cant connect to that, its a sure sign something is wrong with the hardware bud.

Well, nothing suggested worked, I'm still unable to connect to the Internet or access the router's settings. Now the reset button on the router won't even work.
If the router is somehow broken, how is it possible I can access the other computer through it? Thanks for the replies. |

depends on what connections were for sure established... some kind of Hardware Lockup of some sort has happened.. or else firmware corruption .. (took out the WAN but still has a rough amount still working to establish a connection... however.. possibly much slower)...... if it doesn't reset... that's almost a sure sign of self distruction
