New RAM / RAM Qs

I was going to upgrade my current 2x 256mb DDR400 Corsair to 2x 512mb DDR400 but I am unsure as to which RAM I should go for. I look on sites and they're many different ones. Just wondering which one would be the best to buy.

Also, I see 'RAM timings' mentioned on here frequently. What does it all mean? and how do you go about changing them?.

Thankz

changing timings isn't reccomended unless you know what you are doing, pretty much the timings are in clock cycles and it is how long it takes for data to be sent to the cpu
as for new ram, corsair seems to be a good brand aswell as kingston, and both have dual channel kits out if your board is dual channel

I think it is possible to run dual channel with 2 256 sticks and a 512 stick, ask about that. Also, don't waste money on "dual channel" kits. As long as you buy 2 of the same type of RAM, it will work in dual channel.

i dont think u can run w/ 2 256 and a 512 :O

you can get good kits for cheap at times tho... just go w/ the cheapest but make sure they are the SAME TYPE OF RAM speed/size

i tried that once, the system kept blue screening. stopped after i took a stick out.

**EDIT**

I've looked around on the web and i've found some stuff. Was wondering what was the difference between the Platinum Corsair and the Black Sticks of Corsair (which are more expensive)

Anyone know the difference?

You can run dual channel with 3 sticks on that board just as long as the same amount of memory is in the far channel (single slot) as is in the channel with the 2 slots right next tro each other. i.e. 2 256 in the 2 slots right next to each other and a stick of 512 in the slot by itself. I had the same board a while ago and thats how i had it with geil pc3500. As for your timings you should run 11-2-2-2 if your mem can handle it. I know 11 sounds high but works great in an nforce2 board.
