Default Post Help again plz - new CPU upgrade - read in...

Below is what my BIOS supports. You can see the various revisions to the BIOS. I have the latest. Can someone who knows their stuff have a look through the list and tell me what, after reading all the below info, is the fasted CPU my mobo can handle? And maybe what voltage the CPU will need to be. I know I have a 2 volt at the moment, but something I've seen below seems to sujgest it may well take a 1.6 volt as well ? TIA.

Maybe you could take a look at this Table - CPU Speed Setup - FREQ. RATIO, it may help you decide. I just don't understand it TIA.

as you can see on the newest bios update file.. you can go upto 700MHz !!
(or even higher i'm not sure)

but how to config the cpu speed setup, system bus speed and the DIP SWITCH(SW) ?
you shud stop by Gigabyte's site or may be you need to talk or email the supports man.

Default Post mickapetch ;-)

Thx for all that info. I've tried to contact Gygabyte's customer service, but all to no avail. Their after sales service, via email is S***! They don't reply to emails.

From the information I posted above does it look like I can put a 1.65 volt P3 on this board. I'm just not sure. As I say I'm currently using a 2 volt, P2. 1.65 volt seems to be more popular. TIA.

I'm pretty sure the BX chipsets only supports 100mhz FSB & you're limited to a 850 PIII in that respect. As for the voltages: good question. I can't find a defineative answer, but I have the feeling that it will only support 2.0 & 1.75 volt CPU's.

There are adapters available ( http://www.powerleap.com/ ) that *may* allow a higher CPU, FSB & lower voltages.

I gotta say with ATA/33 & only PC-100 SDRAM capabilities: you're limited anyway & a CPU upgrade will have minimal impact, IMHO. Even an 810E or 815E chipset mobo would be better & will support ATA/100, PC-133 & Tualatin PIII/Celerons @1.65v.

HTH & surf over to Intel for 440BX chipset specs & what they will support.

Goto powerleap and check out the funky slot1 tulatin slocket upgrade 'cause I do believe it'll work with your motherboard.

I can personally attest to the flat-out "wow!"-factor power of the 1.4 tulatin celeron, this CPU is incredible!

Just thought I'd toss my .02 in. I tried a powerleap adapter before for my old socket4 that didn't work out, but that company bent over backwards trying to help me get it to work and then gave me a full refund when it wouldn't. A definate "good peeps" company.
