Monitor goes black!!
My wife has a computer at her dental office that is giving them fits and the company that looks after their systems are a bunch of idiots they have replaced the Monitor and P/S trying to fix the problem and it keeps occuring and wont take the new replaced parts back. The computer is used for office work and is also the server for the other computers in the office. The computer will work fine for a few days and then the monitor will go black, she has to cold boot to start up again. Anyone have any idea what it could be ?

have you tried connecting the monitor to another pc to see if the monitor is going out?
and what is the size of the monitor? check the screen resolution and screen refresh rate. check the system bios and to enable all Power management events.. also try setting the power schemes to "Always On" |

when the monitor goes black, is it an instant black as if its turned off or does the screen gradually get darker and darker over a small period of time ending in there being no picture.
Does it actually put itself into standby or does it just stay powered up with no picture? |

The monitor was replaced with a new one and the new one does the same. The monitor size is 17"CRT. Not sure on the refresh rate and resolution settings, will check on that. When it does go black, it goes instantly black with only a small dash in the upper left corner. It doesn't blink. The monitor power indicator light goes from green to yellow.

No new equipment has been added to the office. The computer shop that services their systems came back out the other day and put the old p/s and took back the new one. They also replaced the video card and all seems to be working ok so far

you mean like the dash that normally flashes as a computer is booting up… it may be a windows corruption…
