yeh the one in spybot is awesome… you can choose how many "shreds" you want done… i think the default is 5

whats the diff with a file shredder? after u empty the recycle bin how else you gonna get stuff back

The FBI and other companies and what not have tools where things deleted a year ago can be pulled off of your HD. The only for sure way is to drop your HD into a furnace.

nope .... if you do a zero fill your whole they cant get nothing... I mean nothing, not even formating etc survives....


If you do a wipe you need one that does DoD and have it set to do at lest 28 wipes
use evidence eliminator delete all unused file names, all records of files useage etc
manually check and delete all .tmp files on you hdd, clear all temp dirs
set you page file to wipe on shutdown
reboot make a restore point and then go in clean up and delete all you old system retore points


and you should be fine....


as a second precation fill you hdd with copies of a large file till it is full then delete them. data cant be recoverd if it's been written over

I've seen that done before Neon and data was still pulled from the Hard Drive. This type of thing, these shredders and etc make it much harder and usually not even worth the time. But if you have been busted or suspected of something illegal and your HD is still intact, they will find it.

I'm telling ya man you have to be verry though if you dont do everything I said above stuff like fiile names etc will still be listed,,, and with the file names are alo start and end pints of files... and with that that they can recover partails or fulls of a sfile that s just been "shreded" with out dod wipe

zero wipe in a shredder is pointless it can be recoverd by law enforcement but it's quick



a true zero fill will wipe a hdd, it wrties the entire hdd to all zero's, that mean the entrie drive from beginning to end on all physical places to stroe data will read

and te government and law enforce ment are two driffrent things, I doubt the Cops or FBI have acess to... the ultra top secret stuff the miltary might de classify when it's obsolete in 50 years lol
mabe the CIA but i doubt they be wasteing thier time with you

as well as the other two agencies, simular to the CIA that shall not be named, so clasified, yor not even allowed to know thie names, who knows what they do? no one

a true zero fil leaves the drive like that day it left the factory....


unless the government added specail spy chips to all our hdd's, then its a no go

Even though a drive is filled with 0s, it is still possible to recover data from the drive.

The process is very time consuming and extremely expensive but it is possible as there is a way of finding if a 1 was written underneath the 0

They only way to absolutly guarantee the data is gone is to fill the drive with 0s then again with 1s and keep repeating the process about five times.

actually thats what DOD does and scritry increses on up to 28 wipes after 28 wipes your wasteing your time but 28 is the lucky number

Thanks for these replies. I'm currently usign East-Tec Eraser ^__^. I thought 35 wipes was the safest? The Guttner method or soemthing?
