Pissed CD Burning Probs

Can't burn frikkin cds!!!

I try with Nero and Alcohol - but to no avail - however - it will work through the microsoft own burner in windows - It seems to have happened when I installed that high-mat or whatever it's called update - trying to burn images and anything else with these two programs just fail - they start to write the disc - then fork up!

I've gotten about 10-15 coasters thanks to this! grrrr - I'm glad they only cost 15p/disc

Here's Alcohols output report after the failure - this one is only after a simulation - i got fed up with coasters - the real thing does the same thing:

Goto Control Panel> Administrative Tools> Component Services> Services, make sure "IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service" is not disabled.

I think I've found the problem - the computer is registering them as SCSI drives.... strange thing is I don't even have an SCSI card... let alone them connected to it - they are connected straight to the motherboard with standard IDE cables!! Does anyone please know how to sort this?

Try uninstalling them via Device Manager and reboot.

Try disabling Alcohol's Virtual Drive, since it's installed as a SCSI drive.

Have you tried installing the drivers manually? If not, goto; My Computer> Control Panel> System> Hardware> Device Manager> DVD/CD-ROM drives; right-click your drive, select Update Driver, choose "Install from a list or specific location", then choose "Don't search. I will choose the driver to install.". Highlight "CD-ROM Drive", click next and let it install.

What error message does Nero give you? ... do you have Administrative rights? You could also try a System Restore (if you have it enabled).

can't get the error message from nero now... i just feezes the computer now.

I've just had a look - and my hard drives are registering as scsi too!!!

I've tried disconnecting the ide cable from the ND2500A and lite-on dvd rom - restarting - then plugging the nd2500A back in - still nothing

also reset the cmos and restored everything in bios to default settings

PangingJr is just really nicePangingJr is just really nicePangingJr is just really nicePangingJr is just really nice

i suggest you backup all your important files, whatever you can do with it, when you can.

and try uninstalling ALL 3rd party burner softwares. Reboot your PC every time you've been asked..

after that, go to the Device Manager, hit the + sign in front of "DVD/CD-Rom drives",
then R-click on each drive under the entry and select uninstall it..
this includes the SCSI drive which's i believe it's a virtual drive created by the Alcohol burner software. uninstall all DVD/CD drives (not the HDDs) in the Device Manager only.

Donator
Are you using and Nforce2 mobo? If so are you using the Nvidia IDE drivers? If so uninstall them and install windows default IDE drivers....

Also go to device manager and click view> hidden devices> and see what you see..

I deleted a whole buncha stuff doing that- most of the 'grayed out' stuff can be uninstalled- you will be amazed at how many ghost drivers you have on there. (unless you already do this on a regular basis)

BWX out.

edit- be careful with Network adapters, Non-Plug n Play devices, Sound, video, etc.... because lots of the grayed out things in there are needed- But most of the grayed out things outside of those can be deleted safely

thanks for your help guys!
Yeah I never download all those updates having to do w/ copy protection and CD burning, etc... They are just trying to limit what you can do- pretty soon you won't be able to listen to a CD w/o putting you social security number in there- it's ridiculous. Longhorn is going to be really bad- I'm not even going to upgrade to it, it's just going to control every bit of media you have, forget that.
