port forwarding on a Di-604?
does anybody know how to go about doing this? the instructions included with it have nothing concerning port forwarding...and I have been forced to use this, older router again because my linksys broke. these are the ports that i need forwarded:
can somebody tell me where this is on the d-link router? thanks, rob |

I can help you out tomorrow. I am not at my system now. I am lying in my bed with my wife's laptop. I think what you want though is the "virtual server". I will remember for sure come tomorrow.

go to Advanced... then Virtual Server... And for the first ports that you show on yours... i did it for you... simply click apply... then add in all the other ports.... after applying them... hit restart... BTW... i suggest that you put port 113 in there and forward it off the a non excistant computer... such as 254 (rarely used).... this will put your computer into stealth mode.. ALSO.... make sure you have the latest firmware version for that router.. don't mind the DI-704... all the d-link's are setup and run very much the same..

the thing is alot of the port scanner programs will nail 113 as right away.... if the port isn't open... they usually continue on.... however.. if that port is open... they'll scan the rest of the ports for a possibly another entrance... obviously having Discard Ping on WAN is a must to have enabled...

welll crap...i just opened up mine, and it doesnt look like that...i would upload a Screenie but my ftp isnt letting me log in at the moment so ill just tell you what there is:
Enabled/Disabled (know) Service name (know) Private IP (ip of computer for these ports to be forwarded to correct? the reason I ask is because it allows for the entrance of ANY IP, not just ones on the network [i.e. 192.168.0.100]) Protocol Type (know) Private Port (what is this?) Public Port (what is this?) Scheduling (know) if you could clarify what these settings are...i would be most appreciative...I've never seen them before in the numerous routers i have worked with. UPDATE: I kinda figured it out...I put my computer's ip in the private IP box, and put port 6881 in both the public and private port boxes...but now the problem is I want to forward a range from 6781 (or 6881) through 6999...the box only allows the entrance of 5 characters though, so is it impossible for me to forward them all without doing each one individually? Once you have it up and running, do a port security check here: GRC
He is a genius when it comes to security. |

its a DI604 running 2.20 firmware (latest)..here is a picture of the virtual server page:
also, on the firewall tab, it has some additional info...as well as the ability to input a range of ports...but there is only one problem, in requests a IP address to accept these ports from as well. since all ip addresses are between 0.0.0.0 and 255.255.255.255, could i put those as the start and stop ranges for the IP address and have it accept those ports from any computer? here is a pic of the firewall leaf: (this is from a DI-614+, but the page looks the same) Last edited by Nacht; May 19, 2004 at 09:44 PM. |
