is there any way to fix cd-rws that encountered an error during the recording process?

That there is an actual problem with how the data was laid down/burnt to the disk, not that there was a scratch or something on the disk...right?
If it's a scratch I know of ways to fix it, if it's a problem with the burn I think you've got yourself another conversational coaster....

unfortunately it's an actual burn problem
ANYBODY OUT THERE? 5 bucks down the drain on two cds...

...you can always re-burn it. That's what most software packages assume you will do if you encounter an error. If it's physically damaged, see DW's answer...

but it doesn't read properly in my drive, it recognizes it as an unrecordable format

i have a LG cd rw drive, it's a Princo brand CDRW

I had some old 2x Princo CD-RW - they seem a little unstable in moder drives, even those which are reasonably competent at handling 2x media.
You may be able to erase - or if the main program cannot, try to find a tool called "superblank" - it makes less of a fuss, and effectively throws an erase command at the drive without asking too much about the disk to trip it up http://come.to/SuperBlank (Befare poisonous popup - Gator! - NO THANKS!)
