High temperature on Barton3200+
I just got me a Barton 3200+, and since i was out of stock on thermo-grease,
I used the stock-cooler from AMD, but 60 cel/140f. that is tad (to) high ain't it? funny though, load or idle is just 1 degree different So what do you think

i'd have to agree.... even with just a the stock thermal pad on a retail stock barton heatsink..... at default clocks.. .core is usually no higher then 50*C and 40*C surface.... (that's ASAP in the bios on first boot).....

Sounds like a air-flow issue more than anything.
How is your air-flow in your case? Is the case warm to the touch. Should be cool if you have enough air-flow going though the case. What is the case temps like? What is the actual room temp? If you can keep the case no more than about 5c above room temp you are doing well. Here are my current temps, just measured them: Idle - Room: 21.1c - Case: 23.9c - MB: 39c - CPU: 36c - System load: 300W In my case the Case temp is only 2.8c above actual room temp. When the temp in the room gets hotter the case temp should still be about the same. This is from a few days back (room was a little warmer). Full load was with the CPU at 100% for 1 hour. Idle - Room: 23.3c - Case: 26.0c - MB: 41c - CPU: 37c - System load: 300W Full - Room: 23.3c - Case: 26.1c - MB: 43c - CPU: 50c - System load: 360W Still the difference from room to case is 2.7c and 2.8c. Another cause is the temp probe may just be bad. Bad readings are not always reality! If you case temps are within 5c of room temp at least you know you have good case air flow. Enough that should allow the CPU to cool when not under load. If the heat stays in the case the CPU may not be able to go to lower temps. Greg

Should of got your self an alx-800a/or an slk-800 or better your temps would be lower.
My 2500+ even at at 200mhz o/c (2800+) sets at 30C and up to 34C is the higest i've ever seen it... Edit: By the way ... My temps were like 48C @ idle with the stock amd cooler. EDITED FOR SPELLING -Neon

@ Neon, ah yes but in my town there are 2 Computershops, and the Jet7 was the best of the worse Still it is a good enough cooler if one doesn't overclock, and it keeps the CPUtemp the same (52c idle)(53c load) on 1900 revs, so it is also a very silent one

Update: I have taped one of the Antecs thermosensors to the bottem of the cpucooler and it reads 35-40c after one hour, so I could assume the cpu read is wrong..

The 7N400 series motherboards are notorious for high CPU readings. They read from the diode and a bios upgrade a few months back supposedly made the readings more exact, like 15 degrees higher than previous bioses. I've seen a lot of people asking about high temps on the 7N400 boards in various forums. If you can get the temps on one of these boards to read at or below 50, you're doing fine.

Remember your talking about an un-calibrated test probe, Try it with something you for sure that know the temp of for example the room temp next to your thermostat first, to see how far the probe could be off... BTW: You should have ordered your cooler online then... EDITED FOR SPELLING -Neon

If the board actually took the FLASH image you may simply need to clear the CMOS and it will boot fine.
Find the clear CMOS jumper and give it a try. Greg

i had my bios die whilst overclocking my a7n8x, treid everything: clearing cmos, removing battery, taking out components and leaving the motherboard to sit still for a while. even tried hotflashing in my servers motherboard but couldnt get it to flash. so i just called asus uk customer services and managed to order a bios chip for £5, which is what like $8, i was well impressed. took about a week or so and it arrived, put it in and worked perfectly.
EDIT: so basically maybe try rma, i couldnt since it was out of warrenty but maybe, i mean, your flashing the bios, something they reccommend if you are having problems (like in your case cpu temp reading innaccuracies), and if not hopefully you can get a new chip from them for quite a small price. if you want to hear about various way to try to reflash your bios browse nforcershq http://www.nforcershq.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=43267

Yes but the gigabyte have the bioschip soldered on the mobo, so maybe they try to force you to buy the dual bios version, and if they weren't twice as costly i would be an option
