exclamation 1.5 GB of Memory Benchmarks!

Hello, here are the benchmarks from my system.

The configuration used to be:

Asus P4P800 Deluxe (rev 1016 BIOS)
2x256MB Kingston HyperX PC3200 @ 400 Mhz and 2-3-3-6 timings
Pentium 4 3.0C Northwood - Hyperthreading enabled
Powercolor ATI Radeon 9800Pro @ Stock frequencies (Catalyst 4.4)
Soundblaster Audigy (EAX 4 Drivers)

The new configuration is very similar:

Asus P4P800 Deluxe (rev 1016 BIOS)
2x512MB OCZ Performance Series PC3500 + 2x256MB Kingston HyperX PC3200 @ 400Mhz and 2.5-3-3-7 timings
Pentium 4 3.0C Northwood - Hyperthreading enabled
Powercolor ATI Radeon 9800Pro @ Stock frequencies (Catalyst 4.4)
Soundblaster Audigy (EAX 4 Drivers)

For the games, the x/x/x number is min/max/average frames per second, 3dmark scores and Sandra scores will be listed as text, as will the photoshop score.

Benchmarks follows:

512MB : 63/151/99.5
1.5GB : 71/141/99.7

512MB : 15/28/19.45
1.5GB : 15/28/20.35

512MB : 43/48/45.8
1.5GB : 43/48/45.8

512MB : 16811 3DMarks
1.5GB : 17684 3DMarks

512MB : 5701 3DMarks
1.5GB : 5770 3DMarks

Photoshop -
512MB : 61.2
1.5GB : 58.2

Sisoft Sandra (Buffered)-
512MB : 4935MB/s
1.5GB : 4834MB/s

=====================

So, besides similar benchmarks, Star Wars Galaxies loads 3 minutes faster, my system functions as smoothe after playing games as it does before...it's great, I couldn't have asked for anything more! And these OCZ modules, MAN, they weigh about a pound each and are just a beauty to behold.

As a side note, Memtest reports no errors whatsoever on any stick...so I'm good to go, time to go grind at the Tusken Fort!

Nice man. I remember the difference I saw in SWG when I upgraded from 512mb to 1gig. Makes such a huge difference. This game is so memory intensive.

unexpected results on the 3DMarks, with the slower CL . . . but hey, nice in any case!

Interesting. Once again, theory fails in practice.
Glad it turned out to be a worthwhile upgrade for you.

so you have a board with dual channel support? and 4 dimm slots? Do you have one stick of 512 and one of 256 together in channel one.. and in channel 2... the other two in the right order?

The configuration is this...

In channel A : 2 x 512 OCZ modules
In channel B : 2 x 256 Kingston modules

It is running in Dual channel mode, correctly, with PAT enabled.

And you know what's interesting about 3dmarks on my motherboard? When I ran the 2 x 256 in CL 3-4-4-8, I scored just a little under what I did with the 1.5GB...more than with CL 2-3-3-6, and that's regardless of the voltage pumping through the modules. Strange eh?

Very interesting results.

When I try to run my 2x256 Corsair CAS2 XMS sticks with my OCZ gold, the machine runs unbelievably slow.

Takes nearly 2 minutes extra to boot to desktop. Games are almost unplayable and therefore I didn't even bother to bench.

Wonder what it would be like with the slots mixed?

No dual channel, for one. It would make my computer run like an i845.

To tell you the truth, I was as surprised as you guys were after all the horrors you all said I'd encounter and had lined up 80 bucks for my 256 modules, but I thought "if it aint broke, leave it." And that's what I will do, no benches in other configs...sorry...If I had a secondary rig, maybe, but it's a pain to remove and insert modules in this board (agp slot is too close to the modules, harddrives stick out far, etc. etc.) so I will leave it how it is.

3dmark links posted in my sig.

Running 2 sets of modules in a board (especially un-matched) is always hit and miss. Of course if it works, more memory usually means better performance. Trying it out in your rig is the only way to tell how it will work.
