CPU Question
I have a question regarding my CPU. I just downloaded the CPU-Z program and it says the codename for my CPU is a Thoroughbred but the CPU I know I purchased was a Barton and the link to the exact purchase I made is http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...103-418&depa=1
Now, would the reason it might read wrong be do to the overclock I have it set at? I increased the FSB from 166 to 200.

How much does it list the L2 cache as?

Uh oh, looks like you've been screwed over. CPU-Z get's it's info from the cpu's internal ID tag so it's very unlikely that overclocking has any effect on CPU-Z's accuracy. On the other hand, the link you gave us says that it was a retail cpu. If the retail box says it's a barton (512k cache) it's gotta be a barton because I find it hard to believe that AMD would package the wrong CPU.
One way to be positive is to put the cpu in another barton compatible motherboard and check it again with cpu-z. Also check out wcpu-id, even though both utilities get their info the same way: http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA002.../download.html |

Unfortunetely I don't have the box it came with seeing as I bought it over a year ago and the fact they really make those boxes hard to get in. But, the only type of CPU NewEgg even offers in the 2600+ model is the Barton. I purchased my CPU for $106 and it has dropped down to $90. Perhaps I'm mistaken but I know I go tthe Barton since I knew it was the newer, better one.
Yeah, the program you suggested is also at 256 KB.

I think is it is a barton but its running the full cache...check your bios and make sure you have all cache options selected as enabled.

hmm, can you write down the codes that are written on the CPU? I think you got a box that was packaged wrong with a Thoroughbred in it.

Actually overclocking does effect how CPUZ and whatnot see that chip as... however... the CACHE size should still be 512kb if it's a barton regardless of what is going on..... Overclocking a barton 2500 to 2800+ or 3000+ (using those specific settings via bios).... changes the ID and tag that CPU Z or any other variant.... I and (i think it was chaos) proved this to our selves when he changed his setting to a back to default... checked and overclocked and check and found out.... But definitely, check your bios to see if somehow there is a setting the disables a part of the L2 Cache.... (i highly doubt it, i've never seen anything disable PART of the L2).....
