Better/Quieter heatsink for my cpu...

Hey gang, do any of u have any GOOD suggestions for a new heatsink for my athlon xp 2700? the stock heatsink doesn't do a good job of keeping the temps down, plus it's the noisest fan in my rig. Of course i've never seen the temps go above 55 C under load, but I always say when it comes to temps, lower is always better... So i am looking for a better/quieter replacement for it. Also for any of the heatsinks u guys suggest, do they come with very good instructions of installing it properly? Thanks for any help, guys...

Thermalright h/s (couple with a smartfan or something) are the best there is, but youre gonna pay. Maybe look for a coolermaster aero for something that performs decently and is quiet and cheaper.

That is one of the premier heatsinks. I would recommend it. Couple it with a good fan, like a smartfan 2.

You'll probably want to get a 92mm fan to keep it as quiet as possible. I'd say one of the Zalman's would do nicely.

Welcome. Don't forget also get some decent thermal grease; you'll also have to download the instructions off Thermaltakes's site. Just make sure you take your time installing this sink.

as far as the zalman fan for it, i only saw this on newegg. at normal speed the fan noise is still noticable though, would like to get something a lil quieter... i also found this from vantec, the specs say it's quiet, but what worries me is the airflow seems a lil low...

The Zalman isn't that loud to be honest. I'm using the same setup to cool my viddy card down. However, I'm not even using the included in-line resistor to limit the voltage on the fan. Hmm.. I think you may want something that you can adjust to your liking. Say something like this: http://www.crazypc.com/Merchant2/mer...uct_Code=56261

I have a Thermalright SLK-900U with a ThermallTake SmartFan 2 (80mm) on my 2500+ which is OCed to 3000+. My temps under full load are 37C with a room temp of 25C. My temps at idle are 32C with the same room temp. The ThermalTake SmartFan 2 is nice and quiet and adjusts it speed according to temperature. I have used it now for over 1 1/2 years with out any trouble. I HIGHLY recomend this set up to any one who wants great, quiet cooling with air.

No it stays pretty quiet. Mine has never gone up to full speed (4800 RPM, 48db). The highest I have seen mine go is 3400RPM it is pretty quiet. If my wife doesn't complain then it can't be that bad.

ok gang, i got some choices on which fan i am going to combine with the sp-97 heatsink.
ThermalTake Smart Fan 2 with "Cool Mod"

OR
Antec 92mm SmartCool Thermally Controlled Fan

OR
Enermax 90mm Cooling Fan

Which one of the 3 above do u think would be best with the SP-97 heatsink?
