DH: 3GHz Pentium 4 means pricier PCs
So my question is why even buy anything P4 now? You'll be stuck at 2.8GHz. The Athlon 2600 is looking mighty tasty right now. |

But why buy a 2600? The "ClawHammer" is coming out & you'll be stuck @ 2600 speeds.
I believe the "ClawHammer" has been reported to require 74watts & the "SledgeHammer"/Opteron more (course it is a server chip). The 9700 requires more power than any other GPU, but nobody is complaining & it's still a .015 architecture chip. New tech doesn't cost more & require more powerful components? Since when? I'd think sumthin was fishy if the boards/PSU didn't require changes to support the new chip capabilities. ![]() Why buy anything? Next years model will always be better & more expensive. That's life. JAV GBA! |

The amount of money it would take to a buy a 2.8GHz P4 I could buy a 2600 & motherboard and still have plenty of money to spare. However, you must remember about the Hammer it's an entirely new chip and design. The P4 will still be the same P4. I don't mind buying power supplies; nor do I mind throwing down some bones to upgrade. The cost of all that combined together is totally ridiculous. AMD is still going to support Socket A well after the Hammer. I upgrade every 6 month anyway. I feel the same technology shouldn't be over hauled just to put more bucks in CEO's pockets. |
