Hey gang i recently noticed that my monitor is acting a lil funny. On the left side, the screen jerks back and forth quickly. It doesn't do this violently, but if u stare at it u will notice it. The right side is completely fine, it doesn' t move at all. I thought it might have been the video card because it's oc'ed, but i returned it to stock speeds and the jerkiness was still there. I've had this monitor for 3 yrs now, and it's a KDS AV-195TF. I can't remember if it did this before. Is this a normal thing, or is it a sign that my monitor needs to be replaced sometime soon?
![]() -=Edit=- I just checked again and both sides jerk. The left is more noticeable than the right... Last edited by Drakon; Jul 3, 2004 at 03:10 PM. |

Ide check for a driver update for your monitor first. Whats your refresh set on the monitor 75mhz or above?
But your monitor could be going out by the way your desribing to me sounds like the display might be going out. other thing you could try is does your video card have a vga and a digtal output for the monitor if so try connecting your monitor to the digtal output. let me me know if this helps you good luck man...............

You don't happen to have anything magnetic or electrical standing closeby on the left side of the monitor? If so, then try increasing the space between the two.

*bump*
just bumped it, cuz the "shaking" of the image on the screen is getting more noticable and wanted to know if anyone had any ideas why it is doing this... anyways, i also tried to get in contact with kds, but neither their support nor tech emails work; the message was sent back each time... so does anyone have any ideas why my monitor is acting up like this?

does it get better if you lower your refresh rate?

sounds like it's a magnetic problem. anything like fans or some screwdrivers could cause this.

Have you checked the cables, or tried a higher refresh rate as well?

it's your horizontal hold on the monitor... the capasitors or traces could be getting hot or having a lose connection...... please.. take your monitor to a place to get fixed ASAP.... you do not want to suddenly lose your computer while might having something important to do.. as you might not be able to slap it back into opteration.... hopefully you still have warranty... but to get it fixed is easy and doesn't take long at all as long as there isn't any additional damage....

KDS monitors sometimes have a habit of having horizontal hold falling appart.. i have had 4 KDS monitors... 1 started flipping out on the left side 6 months after purchase.... AND NO, you will only lose your monitor until you get it fixed... i just said the computer as in general terms... as it's kinda use one without a monitor
....

currently happily sitting with a Samsung SyncMaster 900IFT one of the most high quality monitors Samsung has ever produced... next step up from it is a 1100DF...but is worth twice as much...

CRT is the only way to get quality..... no matter what anyone says... you can not get the quality a CRT display compared to any form of LCD.. just not possible yet... or for awhile yet.... I got my samsung monitor from CompuSmart (local store here)..... i know you can pick em up alot of other places..... finding a 900IFT is probably not going to happen... but the 1100DF's are currently available all over the place... (1100 DF is a 22inch monitor supporting 2048x1536@80hz and a dot pitch of 0.20 currently going for 12-$1300 canadian here)

no, I'd guess it's the monitor.
but I was gonna ask if you tried playing around with the hor/vert Synchronizations. if not: open the ATI Control Panel, Displays tab, click on Monitor bar, Advanced tab and just try different combinations of +/- on Horizontal and Vertical. just something else to try.

sorry, bud. the only other thing I can think of is to check if any of the pins on the cable are bent,
or sometimes the tips can be "forked", look like split ends. if possible, try a new, high-quality shielded cable. if none of the above, I'd say the monitor is just slowly dying/not that great.
