weird crash problem

this is on my dad's pc:

windows hardware crash analysis:

"your cpu has detected an unrecoverable hardware error and shut down your computer.

please contact your manufacturer"

nothing would please me more than to tell my dad that he needs a new mobo and processor...so...are they finally broken?

btw, the pc crashes whenever we have more than one window running, and when i open any fullscreen program or even try to open 3dmark2001se

i'm gonna do some work w/ my vid card drivers, cause i'm using the 4.7b right now, i'm going to go back to the 4.6cats before i tell him something is crapped out...but isn't it great when your parent's pc breaks down? you get to build them a new one at no cost to yourself...yet you get to enjoy it

what are the specs of his machine - are they the ones in your sig?

The first port of call would be to check and reseat everything in the comp, dust it out and see what happens. Make sure the psu is connected to a clean power source.

And finally rebuild windows. If the hardware is dead, then windows will fail to install and its new toys time.

my dad's machine has these specs:

P4 1.8ghz
SiS650 mobo
sapphire radeon 9000 128mb
onboard everything

it's a dated machine...

the problem doesn't cause crashing anymore, it just comes up w/ that error message when you boot windows.

my dad refuses to do much w/ this pc...he won't even format it...but that's his problem...if it breaks, i build him a new one, i'm happy, he stays content
