Case Fans
Don't know if this is the right place in the forum but feel free to move the thread if it isn't.
I have 4 case fans in my case, I had 2 in the front and 2 in the back, yesterday I moved the fan in the front to the side window and got lower temps, my sys temps changed from 32 C to 27 C all the time and my cpu from 49-50 idle to 45-48 idle. My question is, if I change the fans in the back so they blow in air instead of blowing out air, is that a stupid thing to do or should I leave it as they are??

it wont be advised no. Ill basically break down the best air flow system, this has been proven and does work. adding fans at the side will also help cool your motherboard components but I still recommend you have one or two at the front pulling in air over your hard drives. this helps but as most people dont monitor hard drive temperatures wont be too apparent. if you make the fans at the back blow in, then you have only your PSU handling hot air out which isnt really very effective.
fan(s) at front blowing in. fan(s) at side blowing in. fan(s) at back sucking out. fan(s) at top sucking out. this is proven because, air flow is coming in from the front at the bottom, over your hard drives, the air is being subjected to a current from the back fans and will move over the motherboard components as its being removed, as you also know heat rises and will be explused via the power supply and any fan(s) you may have on the top of your case. |

mine is setup with 1 120mm rpm adjustable fan on intake from the front with my hdd just of center to cool that at the same time.
one 120mm rpm adjustable fan on the rear for exhaust,a dual fan psu also. for my cpu a copper hs and an 80mm adjustable fan with a tube that leads straight to the side panel for a 80mm fan if needed.tube sits directly over the cpu fan so that intakes air straight from the out side with dust filter attached. my temps are similar to yours so having all fans on intake does not work. |

actually mig brings up a good point, adding better quality fans would probably be your best option, its a minor outlay worth looking into.

my case is Here so you can see my ponit about the fans a little better.
also to mention there is a handy space on the right side of the drive bays were i put most of the cables there.adds to the air flow if there is limited cables in the way. |

Thanks alot guys. I will keep thing as it is now then (2 80mm back sucking out air, 1 80 mm in the front over my harddrives, 1 80 mm in the side window blowing over the mb and graphics card).
Again thanks alot for the excellent input as always.

is 80mm the standard size of fans in pc's? if so, that's what i got...
i have one intake in the front, but it doesn't bring much in really...one blowing out on the side, one blowing out in the back, and a pci-slot fan sucking air off my vid card and blowing it out the back. should i turn my side fan around so that it's blowing in? even though i don't have a fan on top to blow the air out?

120mm fans at a slower speed and quieter will draw the same airflow as 80mm at a higher speed. i'd swap around that side fan,you will have outside air blowing onto your mobo/video card that way,if possible find something very thin so you can use as a filter. use the rear & psu fans to take the hot air out. |
