bitsetting
I am an idiot.
That said, can somebody explain me what 'bitsetting' is in plain English and why it matters with a drive like NEC ND-2510A which doens't support it? I've been reading some thread in firmware page and terms like 'bitsetting,' 'booktype,' 'RPC1' are just overwhelming for me. My impression there so far..."What the hell are they talking about?" I am trying to choose a decent DVD burner. Besides, I wish NEC ND-2510A was bundled up with Nero. Thanks for any help. Last edited by blix9; Jul 6, 2004 at 08:14 PM. |

RPC1 = Region Protection Code 1 (1 is North America and other countries).
As for the others, I'm not sure. These DVD burner reviews might interest you: Lite-On SOHW-1213S and 832S Lite-On SOHW-812S Plextor PX-712A |

RPC1 = Region Free
RPC2 = Region Locked Officialy all DVD drives that come out today are RPC2 drives. This means that it only allowsy you up to 5 changes of region and then it locks to the last used region. And if you for example try to watch a region 1 DVD in a region 2 DVD player it will not work. So the best thing to do is to get a cracked firmware for DVD player so that you can watch any region DVD Disk. Oh and you also have to circumvent the region protection in software DVD players. Extremely stupid, isn't it. And all thanks to jerks in Hollywood and RIAA. Booktype / bitsettings DVD-RW has a DVD-RW booktype (a few bitts in lead-in on disc define it). But some players don't accept this booktype and they only accept DVD-R booktype. So if the DVD burner supports booktype settings then you can use a DVD burning app to set the desired booktype and then the player will just think it has gotten a DVD-R disk whil in fact it has gotten DVD-RW disc. And if all goes well it will now play it just fine. |
