Bellator is on a distinguished road

some noobler builder questions....

-Case USB ports:

Do the USB ports on cases have a standard (e.g. usb 1.0, 2.0..) or is all that matters what the usb is rated on the mobo... I was hoping to hook up a K8V SE DLX (8 USB 2.0) to an Antec Sonata Case, but I read that the Sonata front USB ports are only USB 1.0??? kinda confused on that.

-Case Fans

I am planning on adding an additional 120mm fan to the front of the aforementioned Sonata case, but I'm not sure what to look for when buying a fan? What rpm speed is good? Any mainstay brands? Since the Sonata is a 'quiet' case was hoping to buy a relatively 'quiet' fan...

-HDs >137GB in Win XP

I have read that any HD bigger than 137GB has to be manually partitioned. With the new computer I am building I was planning on using a 160GB Hitachi Deskstar for storage. I am wondering if there is anyway to install it without forming partitions? Or is partitioning the only way to do it under XP...

-OEM Drives

Ordering through newegg I am getting an OEM drive and am wondering if there are any additional cables i'll have to buy/software i'll have to DL when getting an OEM version?

Great community here and have really apprecaited all the past help you guys have offered. Obviously am a total noobler with this stuff so all your advice really helps

System Specs

-Case USB ports:

if the specs state usb 1.0 thats all they will work as.they will still work on a mobo that has usb 2.0 just a little slower on the access times.

-Case Fans

good quality 120mm fans will work better and quiter than 80mm fans,so fans by coolermaster are good.try to get adjustable rpms ones.that way you can set them as high (noisy) or low (silent) as you choose.

-HDs >137GB in Win XP
i have a 160gig hdd windows does mine fine.although some motherboard bios don't detect more than 137GB hdd's or around that size.but id say your mobo is fairly recent it should'nt be a problem.but could see if there is a bios update for it.

-OEM Drives

oem drives come with no extras like cables hence the usual price difference.

Thanks for the help, quick follow-up. The PSU that comes with the Sonata, a TruePower 380w, allows you to plug your fans into the PSU and have the PSU adjust the fan speeds based on temp. Will this only work with variable RPM fans or any fan? Also, for an OEM SATA drive im not entirely sure which cables i'll have to purchase. SATA cable for the mobo? any others?

Thanks again.

your question about the adjustable fans will work, but id get the normal fans as your psu controls them.

sata cable.

check you have not already got one as these come with your motherboard.

and possibly a adapter.

but check the psu some already have the attachment on them. The black end of the pic is what you want.

the Sonata's power supply does come with 2 SATA power connectors
so, no adapter needed, Bellator
