problem installing windows...

god, it seems like one thing after another. on my new comp, I am attempting to install windows xp pro...and it makes it through most of the installation. It goes through the first step where it copies the install files to the HDD, then restarts. It then installs everything, it has the windows gui styles with the "33 minutes remaining" message and such. Once this step finishes, the computer restarts again, attempting to start windows. Right after POST, and it asks me if I want to boot from the dvd (which I do not, so i hit nothing), it gives me a black screen. no HDD activity or dvd rom activity. The monitor still has a signal, but it's just black.

I've tried this about 4 times...this first with a full format, twice with quick formats, and other times just trying to overwrite the windows on the HDD. each time the same problem. Every once in a while, it will give me the OS select screen. If I put start windows normally, it freezes at that screen. Selecting "last known good config." makes the screen black, and nothing happens (as before), and safe mode displays the loading list, then stops at MUP.SYS i believe...where it stays.

help!

Go into the bios and select FAIL SAFE settings.... and try again.... you may have a bios option on that is putting your machine on the edge of instability.... working fine.. then loading something and crashing... or corrupting.... I just recently had this issue... takes awhile to find the bastard option causing it.... In my case... found it was the "Top Preformance" option on my Gigabyte board.... i thought it was memory....

ah, it was the 6800GT...shoulda figured that out earlier...because it is brand new and all...

anyways...Im running it off of a geforce3 right now...im gonna load everything up, tweak it, then give you guys some pics and screenshots of my new comp
