Must be Internal, and it must be FROM THIS LIST!
http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/sub...3&list=&page=0 currently i can't really even think about going beyond the $150 mark.... but if i must... i might spend a bit for the sony (even though i REALLY don't want to get a sony drive) Please... everyone... feel free to spit out your own opinions on the selection and pick which one you think is the best... the HP on is the one i'm currently really looking at EDIT: what was i thinking? mac compliant? LG Dual Layer
LG GSA-4120B 12X Super Multi Internal DVD+/-R/RW Drive - $199 CAD
Kinda expensive though. But I've always trusted and loved LG stuff. I'm sure you can find it cheaper at other stores.

Terrible luck?
Elaborate. LG has been good to me. Despite the fact that one of their 17" monitors died prematurely on me. I still bought another LG.

I've owned 3 LG burners, one of which i had replaced with the exact same thing..... with no luck.. 5 LG DVD Rom drives which for some reason 2 blew up kinda.... refused to work after a few months.... the other 3 just kinda started showing LOW transfer rates period.... (lol... just watched the little kitten smack himself upside the head and is currently sitting there rubbing his own face ...lol) I had 2 LG monitors having issues with distortions... so i'm totally at a loss of wtf i'm doing wrong....

you must have some sort of deal going there because that place is expensive.
anyway i personally would not touch any drive made by hp. me & a large group of freinds have had nothing but bad luck with their drives as a whole.(maybe they have improved over the last year?) can not go wrong with a plextor. ever.

Try the LG
If it dies on you, return to FutureShop. They're pretty relaxed about that sorta thing. I think... (I never bought stuff from them hardware wise)

I love the return/replace/upgrade policy they have going... one reason i refuse to go anywere else because in the end... i usually end up with the sweetest deal!

No it's not
It's not the only Canadian store, but it's a well known Canadian store and it can be trusted. I'm guessing he just wants a hassle free experience.

I can MOD it in any fashion...say change the heatsink on a Video Card, or splice the wires on a speaker set.... paint a CD-DRIVE .... hell, tear almost anything apart and put it together WITHIN reason.... IF there is a power surge... or somehow water or something shorts the hell out of anything i have... or a simple little accident of say, pulling the card out of the box and accidently dropping it... IF i get the product and it doesn't work... or it has even the slightest inability to work to it's full potential.... I CAN TAKE IT BACK If i take it back within 14 days - 90 days (depends on the product) i get a completely REPLACEMENT of the product or REFUND.. OR if they don't have th exact model in stock at the exact moment.... they will give me something better of similare value.. IF there isn't one.... they'll upgrade me without charge and transfer the warranty over (if i haven't had the product for more then 1 1/2 years or so already)... I have walked in one year.. picked up a voodoo 3 3000 AGP for 144, paid 29.99 extra for 3 year warranty.... HOWEVER, the product had already 1 year warranty already one it.... so that pumps me up to 4 years.... 2 years later.. the thing decides to crash and burn on bootup... weird corruption for no apparent reason... Take it back... and they hand me a radeon 7000 or better...... they transfered the last 2 years onto it... and i'm still good! Seriously, in the end... i've got a nice soft worry free pillow to sleep on.... ![]() AND, they don't even raise questions.. What's the bonus EXTRA out of it all... say i product like my yamaha 8x8x24x burner fails... i took it back and they were going to hand me a LG 32x12x40x burner without charge.... i decided i wanted the yamaha 44x24x44 they had on the shelf... what happened? i paid the difference between the LG 32x12x40x burner and the yamaha i wanted.... what'd it cost me extra? $40....and they transfered the last year i had left on the orginal burner to the new one... ontop of that.. i purchased another addition 3 years.... AND if i can't my current burning going.... i'll be taking it back and probably paying nearly zilch for a new DVD burner.... Thanks for the opinion Lchevy....

well for thew prices they charge you should get that kind of service. as far as "spitting it out" there is only one plextor on your list. pg2 px 7012a.
there is a definite advantage to what you say you get to do. though discounting the 'mod' part best buy will let you do the same thing if you are willing to pay the extra $$. the problem is some of those prices are 2x as much as what you can get it for on the internet. you could get that same plex for $170 delivered to your door. & IF it was to break(very doubtful with a plex) after the warranty was up you could buy another one & still save $$.

I wouldn't go for a Sony or a Plextor (over priced garbage), but I'd take a Plextor over a Sony. If I were you, I'd get a BenQ. But, then again, I'm not you. |

Why not just tell them the drive you want.
Let them know you are aware they will charge you just about the highest price out there. So they order the drive you want from newegg and raise the price, you buy it and have your 3 year warranty. Greg

lol.. grog.... newegg doesn't ship to canada.... majority of all online stores won't ship to canada.. and those that do... won't ship to saskatchewan.... and those that do.... won't ship to PO BOX's... SCREWED! i've said this in the past MANY times.... Those prices are canadian remember.... as futureshop actually does well as those are actually lower then anywere else i can get it (they usually beat any competitor by 5-10% ) the shipping to saskatchewan is unreal guys..... trust me... i've tried to figure out how much it'd cost to ship alot of stuff.. it's unreal!

plextor.. overpriced garbage? they MAY be overpriced but garbage they are not. i do a LOT of cd & dvd burning. have found nothing that matches these drives for build quality, compatibility, & - if you ever need it- customer support. their pextools pro is probaly the best dae software out there. my 8x dvd burner has never produced a coaster & has burned every 4x media i have put in it at 8x. it rips dvds as fast as any dvd rom drive out there. & that is rare in a burner. i still can not beleive how quiet the drive is. even the tray mech is extremely quite.

nice drive for the price .does have some issues.- some read problems with its own disks, as of current firmware can not burn 4x media at 8x, seems to have problems with dvdcrypter, but very few compatibilty problems. for that price you can afford a few coasters
