Why are you going for the extra (slight) expense of a dual channel memory kit on a single channel rig?

socket 939 is dual channel and more future proof than the AMD64 socket 754, semprons (32bit athlon/duron replacements) are taking over the 754 apparently.

Just my 2p

With the AMD64 chips the memory controller is on die (on the processor). Only the 939 and 940 chips have dual channel controllers on die.

Who told you that it was dual channel and is this a self build or shop build? I'd have to question the reliability of the shop if it's the latter.

BTW welcome to DH

Why not get the Audigy 2 ZS? It supports 7.1 speakers, and I doubt it can be more tha $5 or so more expensive.

If you look around the Uk at the moment everyone seems to be doing deals on the ZS, I've seen it as low as £70.00 so it's a dood buy at the moment. Is there something else due out, you don't usually see a widespread price drop like this until the next gen is due.

That seems about right, I payed about that much after conversion for my card, that I bought like 4 months ago.

The trouble with currency conversion dollar wise particularly USD is that although there are so and so dollars to the Pound, in practice things works out about the same numerically due to the excessive taxation and profiteering that runs riot over here.

Yeah, except that was Canadian.

I just checked prices on them here, and they seem to be about the same, which I don't really find that low for that type of card.

i think personally... that spreading out buying a computer over a period of 6 months is rather a terrible idea.. (enless you are able to use it the entire time, and simply make smooth transitions over time)... if you gonna build a rig.. wait till you've got the money and the parts are availabl.e. and plurger all at once... that way you will most definitely end up with the best price and best hardware all at once.....
