High cpu usage when using the keyboard
Hello all.
I got this problem since a year back atleast and the strange thing is that sometimes when i reboot, the problem is gone. But another reboot later brings it back. I press ctrl-alt-del to check on the cpu usage and then start press some keys and then the cpu load goes to 20% or more. It makes playing quake style games impossible because it will lag the game hard when the keyboard make its annoying cpu spikes. Anyone got any ideas at what this crap comes from and how to remove it? I have tried with a M$ keyboard, same problems. Using Sygate personal firewall, but i had the problems before using that. Antivirus program enabled or disabled, doesnt matter. i also have a logitech keyboard but i haven't had this problem my guess is due to me not installing the drivers and software that came with the keyboard since i don't used all those extra keys like shortcuts to ebay and all these other shortcuts and extra functions that all they do is take up resources this migth be your problem if you don't use theses other funtions i would uninstall them and just let windows recognize the keyboard, hope this helps

My Logitech Elite keyboard has rarely messed up... maybe if it was a USB keyboard it wouldn't mess up... who knows...

I have a Logitech keyboard, Sygate 5.5 personal firewall pro, and a Tbred on an Nforce 2 board with no problems.. I would look for ghost drivers in the device manager by hitting the "show hidden devices"
I would also not use the logitech drivers and try the USB and PS/2 ports- I have my keyboard hooked up to the PS/2 port and use the USB jack only for the hub in my keyboard- which is what I use to hook up my Logitech mouse.. Sounds like an annoying problem, try to uninstall all keyboards and keyboard drivers start over too.. Reinstalling motherboard drivers might help too- when dis this all start, or don't you know? EDIT Also another thing to try if you are using the logitech drivers is to allow the drivers access to the internet in the advanced rules in Sygate- the drivers need access to use the special function keys.. But Sygate should have popped up and asked for permission already..

I had these problems since last year.
It might have popped up when i changed to a Radeon card but im not 100% sure. Im not using Logitech drivers at the moment. I got 2 other PCs, with Nforce2 and Via chipset and they dont act like this. But they have Geforce cards. Do Radeon cards use the keyboard for any special stuff? Thanks for helping me with this, time to hit bed. Its midnight ZZzzzz |

Do you even know what kind of motherboard it is? No it isn't the Radeon card.. But use the driver cleaner on that too-- search this site for it.

I have done a couple of clean installs of winxp since this problem came up. Im using a Soltek SL-75FRN2-L motherboard and i have tried with official nforce2 drivers and beta.
It cant be the cpu or memory because i have changed that once. Changed motherboard to the same model but newer revision (the old one had same problems but works cool when i rebuilt a system for my kids). Tried two different audio drivers (realtek and nvidias own). I am using the latest bios version. Last edited by Ronox; Jul 30, 2004 at 10:17 PM. |

If that is the case, then it is the mobo or a bios setting, or a driver for the mobo... Did you ever type Format C: in DOS after loading Fdisk? Just curious.. If not, try that.. It sounds like you are just installing over WinXP or something... Not sure though..

I did a full format with the winxp install cd once. I cant for the life of me figure out what the heck makes the keyboard act like this. Its so strange.
Ive never heard of anyone else having this problem so its hard to find the darn bug. |

I have noticed posting special characters like æ ½üŸúÉ <--- if I post a whole page of those my CPU usage goes up sometimes... But not very much. I bet it's the mobo- that's the only common denominator. |
