Router Died - Need Advice on getting new Gaming Router.

I've used the Dlink 704-P for a long time now.. and its just died.. router goes on .. but nothing goes thru.. What i would like to know from all of u is whats a good cable/router that some of u have had no problems what so ever to use with gaming and hosting with. i know my way around one. but i've always had problems with the one i had when playing Pandora Tomorrow... so it dying is kinda a good thing.

I've heard link-sys are good for all round .. but i hear just as much with d-link.. but nothing on practical use.

The usage will only consist of web cam, file sharing, game hosting and p2p chat software ( trillian )

Linksys, Netgear, Belkin, D-Link, and Buffalo (If you can find them) are all great.

My DI-604 died on me as well after a heavy thunderstorm. It would let stuff pass though but some how it was turned into only a switch?

I'm using the 524 now works great if you DON'T update /w the latest firmware (Reboot issue every 20 minutes or so)

Nice ... DI-524 seems like a good choice... didn't think of goin wireless.. it mite come in handy for some lan partys.. i already got a dlink 24 port switch.
Maybe I mite move up a lil and use the DI-624 50 after rebate .. can't really go wrong with that =P

I'm not really recommending it though I'm not saying it sucks. I have a laptop so of course I require a wireless setup. Just remember though if you do go wireless to make sure it's secure!!!

Normally it's better to use the MAC address deal instead..but you can do both if you like.

You sure it died? power it off for a few hours and see if it works again..
so much "people" on the net who are "interested" in other ones computer...
I recently bought the Linksys Befsr41 v3
much better than the Edimax junk I had, who kept failing after a few day's/hours

Try unpluging it for well over a minute... then plug it in.... then wait a minute.. then taking a pensil or something that'll fit the hole in the back for the RESET button... press and HOLD that button down for a minute.. then let it sit for a minute (meanwhile you have your computer and modem unplugged from it! ).... then uplug it.... wait a good 5 minutes.. plug it in.. connect your hardware... and try again... IF it fails... it's toast... .... currently i just got done and gotten a bit of info for the latest router from D-link... 804 and 808 Routers are currently the fastest and more secure... the 808 being the FASTEST of them all... (completely WIRED with no WIRELESS)..... i can pick up the 808 for 139 canadian.. which isn't bad at all as i have a d-link 704p as well... and since i bought it... it's given me the ocasional problems... the Di-604 was the router that was most trusted and bought..... it now has to retire as the 808 is now replaceing it by the looks of things....

Well i unplugged it for more then half the day while i was out buying some pc stuff.. when i came back to use it all. .it gave that problem.. i think its purely eletrical... but it seems decided.. i'll be getting a d-link.. even tho the 704p was NOT game friendly.. ( couldn't host for diddly in Pandora Tomorrow ) but seeing as all of u dont have a prob with the other ones.. ithink i'll be doin the same... worse case .. i just return it and find something else.. =)

I'll take a look into it Judas.. Having something new that works is always a pro.. getting the 604 is another option.. but i would do the latter and get something better.. Necrosis idea of gettin something wireless wasn't too bad either.. 624 model tho .. ppl who come to a lan party or even some kid from school could use it without putlling a wire. from the switch.
