Is it possible...

Is it possible to have two DSL hubs in the same house? This means two separate internet connections, but the same ISP... The reason is, I've had it was this router crap, being disconnected at least five times a day because I'm using my brother's so-called "his bandwidth"...

I went to my ISP's site, www.surewest.net, but I didn't see a plan that I need? Since we're paying $45/month right now... how much would the new connection cost, in general?

Yes, it possible sorta. You will need two phone lines and have to pay for another connection, $45 a month. It's going to cost alot, and I'm not sure if the ISP's will allow 2 accounts, but I don't see why not.

How are you being disconnected, is he disconnecting you? Maybe you need a router...

I have a router... that's what he's disconnecting me from... Darn, too expensive for another $45/month

yes it is possible..... you could even take advantage of say 2 connections.. (although you'll have to pay for the extra connection).... They may give you a discount though... but no gaurantees.. now to really use the power is to get a router with DUAL wan ports... with load balancing OR the ability to say make one connection for a specific computer and the rest to share..

Yeah I'm not sure about if our router can do that... It's a Linksys something by the way. But our ISP is laying fibre optics in our area soon, and so we would have 5Mbps... would it be possible to, say, split the bandwidth in half, being as how I would get 2.5Mbps, he gets the other 2.5Mbps?

Yeah but it will still lag him... If I take up half the upload speed and half the download you will obviously get high pings in games and whatnot.

So why does he hog it? I think this calls for helping the parents pay for it, then you can have claim over the bandwidth.

It won't matter even if I helped to pay... the dsl hub and router are in his room and you just can't take them out... so not really any point to help out lol.

indeed necrosis... any connection can be easily moved through a house... although it's a bit harder drilling through 1 foot + of cement....

take the issue up with your parents man, he can't just disconnect you if you are doing something.
if you can afford to pay a certain amount per month for the internet access try that - and then he has no reason to disconnect you coz it is your bandwidth now… i personally pay for half the cost of the internet connection per month at my house

hows he know that you're taking up the bandwidth?

theres uh...something i tried...

theres a way of making it so the LED doesnt turn on........................................so he wouldnt see the blinking light saying its in use. You could try it.

or maybe not. its up to you obviously.

He doesn't look at the lights... Whenever he just lags he disconnects the ethernet cord that's going into the router from my side.

Uh, enabling DMZ? Maybe someone should give him a nice virus. At least once a day. That'll keep him busy. The firewall won't stop it.

Seriously, talk to your parents about it. If he can't share, he should have the privledge revoked.
