Sad Cyclic Redundancy Check Error when i try to move files

Well when i try to move certain files frm my HDD to my zip drive i get dis error,no matter how many times i try i'll still get dis error n wouldn't b able to move it to my zip disk.Im sure the problem is not with my zip disk/drive as i get dis error even when i try to copy files frm my rewritable cd to my HDD.

The final straw came when i got dis error when transferring files in between different HDDs.I have been tolerating dis for quite awhile but dis is too much to bear.

Quote:
The CRC is a very powerful but easily implemented technique to obtain data reliability. The CRC technique is used to protect blocks of data called Frames. Using this technique, the transmitter appends an extra n- bit sequence to every frame called Frame Check Sequence (FCS). The FCS holds redundant information about the frame that helps the transmitter detect errors in the frame. The CRC is one of the most used techniques for error detection in data communications. The technique gained its popularity because it combines three advantages:

Extreme error detection capabilities.
Little overhead.
Ease of implementation.
Did a search on google but didn't manage to find much useful information. The quote above is the definition dat i managed to find but it doesn't make any sense to mi.

Could someone plsplspls enlighten mi as to wats causing the CRC error?I reali getting desperate here.

TIA

(Im a WinXP Pro user if dat helps)

I get that message..

I get it when I find that on my MegaMan X4 CD. Usually caused by corruption of the file or something of that nature. You could try to fix it by running ScanDisk..

P.S - Welcome to DH

Yes i did try with different ZIP disks but it didn't help at all.But it doesn't make sense dat i get the error even when transferring files frm 1 partition to another rite...

Heh, and never use CD-RW's to backup big files... always CRC errors on those. Just stick to the CD-R's if you need to back stuff up.

OMG i found bad sectors on my 250mb zip disk

Quote:
Checking file system on J:
The type of the file system is FAT32.

One of your disks needs to be checked for consistency. You
may cancel the disk check, but it is strongly recommended
that you continue.
Windows will now check the disk.
Volume Serial Number is A4C2-B2E1
Windows is verifying free space...
Read failure with status 0xc000009c at offset 0xb46d000 for 0x10000 bytes.
Read failure with status 0xc000009c at offset 0xb46d000 for 0x10000 bytes.

Bad sectors found.
Free space verification is complete.
Windows has made corrections to the file system.

249597952 bytes total disk space.
2048 bytes in 1 folders.
2048 bytes in bad sectors.
249591808 bytes available on disk.

2048 bytes in each allocation unit.
121874 total allocation units on disk.
121871 allocation units available on disk.
I didn't know there could b bad sectors on a zip disk man.I tink dis is causing the CRC errors, but anyone knows how i can get rid of them(bad sectors)?Or at least make it "well" enuff for mi to backup some files in it..?
