3200 Xl Pro ram problem

I had a one gig of this low latency ram in my pc. I decided to add another gig of the same ram of course. BUt now I notice when i put in an extra gig the ram mhgz goes from 200 to 166 and it changes to 333 instead of 400. And my bios doesnt let me change the mghz back up to 200 why is it doing this when i add the extra ram?

Some boards do this for stability. What size are the sticks and what mobo are you using?

It wont even let you overide to DDR400? That just hurts bud. I guess all you can do is hope for a new bios to fix it(doubtfull) or wait for NF3 Ultra prices to drop. Sorry

ah wait I think there are 2 separate issues . . . one being when you populate too many slots, they run at slower speed (like madcat), the other being the mobo forcing even just one DIMM to slower speed because it reads the rating from the SPD (like dipstick had). wonder if they've changed the latter by now?

yeah, those are two separate ones but I dont think he's suffering from the SPD reading since the XL ram is very new and should definitely be getting picked up as DDR400.

running 1 stick at a time do you get ddr400 on each stick, try running something like memtest to search for errors as an error can bring your ram functionality down. i dunno if it would drop the speed tho

The problem is the early boards cannot not run more than four banks at DDR400. Since most ram made today is double sided you're maxed with two sticks. The NF3-250's do not suffer from this but the VIA kT800 and NF3-150 definitely do from my testing. Seems VIA still has this problem
