Sata HD & IDE CDrom's

My story starts with an upgrade to a DVD burner then to an ATI AIW 9600 then to a WD SATA 120GB HD "see were I am headed here"? BROKE! Anyway my question is ,when I install the SATA HD in my system I will be taking out my old HD .That leaves my DVD\CD burner and DVD Rom Drive on my secondary IDE cable.Should I move both the DVD drives to the primary IDE cable, Or have one the primary & one on the secondary or leave them were they are?

If you oftenly use both units at the same time then you might want to run them off separate cables since that is optimal. But otherwise it won't really make a difference wichever way you hook them up.

if you like to copy CDs directly from one drive to another, it is just SOOOO much better to have them both on their own master slots.

In fact, in general its just better that way anyway especially if you arent using the extra slot.

Seperate the drives and put each on it's own IDE and make sure the Burner is MASTER on the cable it is on. Many many problems happen when the burner is not master.

Thanks for the quick help.I will put the DVD burner on the primary as the master and the DVD rom on the secondary as the master.

If you don't want the drive letters to shuffle, move the Secondary Master to Primary Master, and change the Secondary Slave to Secondary master - if you just move the one, you'll flip the drive letters, and it'll take a couple of weeks before you stop selecting the wrong one!
