Pioneer DVR-A08 "Japan?"

The dvd burner i want is out in Japan and is avable on pricewatch. This might be a stupid question but are there any differenecs from a japanese released dvd burner and the one they plan on releasing later in the us. Because i dont want to buy a burner that wont work with U.S dvd players?

I can't see why there should be any difference... you don't have "regional" firmware for drives, and all DVD-ROM, R and RW devices have the usual region code changing arrangement - though on your own burns, you would not be applying region codes anyway.

it is recorded media where the differences lie, i.e. PAL or other specificaitons...not like the old Nintendo game crap that was regionalized, but it does exist.

Dosent the option to burn PAL or NTSC in the software not the burner? What sucks is my birthday is on the 15th and i need to tell my wife what one to get me befor next week

Japan is NTSC like the US

Don't go too much by the "16x" speed - it's Zone-CLV, and the 16x zone is small one at the end that will only be reached at close to full capacity.

Other makers are planning on going P-CAV - Pioneer have been Zone-CLV even when writing CD-R, so they either do not have the hardware to do it, or they've never developed the feature.

Ok I just want to get the fastest, latest drive out right now cuss i need to order it today or by mon to get it here by next Sunday for a birthday "mine"

So do you have anything els with the same specs that comes in black in mind that i can order right now

Well i got the DVR-108 with 1.06 firmware and i have to say that this is one of the best burners i ever had , not one coaster yet , DVD+R, -R , +RW, -RW all burned without any probs little slow in cd-r (32X) burning but is the fastest and best DVD burn to date. No complants here
