I just got a brand new Samsung 712n LCD monitor. Its got a response time of 12ms, well below what you need to eliminate ghosting, so why am i still seeing it? Ive looked at several reviews for the monitor, everyone says its crisp and clear, with no ghosting whatsoever. But what im seeing is very noticable ghosting...the only game i play is Counter-Strike, but there is a major amount of blurring in game, and even when i just move a window across the screen quickly, ghosting.
I have it set to its optimal resolution and refresh rate, 1280x1024 @ 75Hz, and i have CS set to that same resolution. Someone please help, why is there still ghosting? Do i have a bad monitor or what? edit: one more thing i just noticed, in the game, even standing still everything is a little blurry, especially the letters and words. On the desktop everything is crisp, but still has ghosting. I tried adjusting the coarse, fine and sharp but it doesnt affect the game at all. Last edited by gt123; Aug 12, 2004 at 07:23 PM. |

Is it any better when set to 60Hz?
Have you tried with a different computer/video card? I've only briefly seen one of these monitors, which didn't appear to have your problem... if you didn't order online, I'd probably try and bring it back in to the store, see if any display models have the same problem, and try for a replacement. |

I actually think it is better at 60Hz...less ghosting, but its still there. Its not nearly as bad as it was, i did some tweaking with the little program that came with the monitor, but everything is still blurry enough when i move the mouse or run in-game...not even close to a CRT, it actually hurts my eyes to play that way. I guess thats just as good as it gets...im goin back to the CRT, seems like that 12ms isnt all its cracked up to be. Should i get a FP CRT instead?
thanks for the quick reply Oh and i havent tried it with another vid card or anything, this computer is only a few months old..2.6ghz, 512mb ram and a buncha other good crap, and a Radeon 9800 pro, so i cant see how that could be the problem. and you say the monitor you saw didnt have this problem, from what you can remember was the picture perfectly clear no matter how fast you moved, or could you see even a little blurriness? even if i moved it slowly across the screen (in the game), there was blurring. Not a massive amount, but definitely noticeable. Last edited by gt123; Aug 13, 2004 at 02:20 AM. |

Are there any drivers available for that LCD? Also are you running on analog or DVI?

Could be your problem allright, try using DVI, if you can or test it on another card/pc with DVI.

in effects panel, try enabling (or disabling) smooth texts option.

I agree, if you can use DVI most definitely do so. It can be a difference of night and day

Nacht what did you do that could involve ghosting? Any games? Like i said, i fixed the really bad ghosting i saw when i first got the monitor by tweaking everything i could...after that it was just blurred whenever i, say....swiveled the mouse around in a game, like doing a slow 180, all blurry. Not really bad, but very obvious. This would be considered ghosting, right?

the 9800 pro should have DVI out.... switch over to that... that monitor should have a DVI connection available...
Then retune if nessary Anolog is purely for CRT's as the way CRT's display stuff... the way they work.. it's just overall better at the moment.... LCD's are pretty well pure digital....

sorry germanjulian, i thought you were just being an asshole...that post didn't exactly help solve my problem. But, anyways, i took the monitor back, i dont think it had a DVI output, since it was an analog monitor. But i didn't really look into that too much. I think im probably just better off with a CRT anyways - thanks for all your guys help
And from what i've seen on reviews of LCD's on different hardware review sites and customer reviews, none of them are really as good for gaming as a CRT. I'd rather just not spend $480 that would just look kinda cool on my desktop, i wouldn't need that good a picture for anything other than a game. and in case your wondering why i got one in the first place, it was a gift - i was trying to see if i could fix the ghosting so i wouldn't have to take it back. another edit: I guess i'm not really clear on how DVI works...the monitor itself is an analog model, how could it use DVI?
