Windows ASPI Driver Problems?
Can someone tell me how to get the latest drivers installed back in my pc?
None of my burning programs recognize my CD-RW or DVD burner and it obviously is these aspi drivers that have gotten screwed up somehow, probably when un-installing some program and it took a driver with it as they sometimes do! I already tried doing a restore on my wxp os and it did not help. I went to this site below and downloaded the latest drivers from Adaptec, but my pc will not allow them to be installed. http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/sup...dkey=ASPI-4.70 I get a splash screen saying this: 16 Bit Windows Subsystem C:\Winnt\System32\Autoexec.nt. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows Applications. `Choose` Close to terminate the program. I went to this site: http://www.ncf.carleton.ca/~aa571/aspi.htm I downloaded An ASPI Utility Check that displays INFO concerning your aspi drivers and it appears that I am missing two of them. LOG0144: Starting ASPICHK installer on Sun Aug 15 08:56:05 2004 ASPICHK0438: OS = Windows NT (5.01.2600) UPGRADE1004: c:\winnt\system32\wnaspi32.dll dated 07/17/2002 02:03:20, 45056 bytes. I do not know why I cant install the package of drivers from Adaptec into my pc. Thanks for any replys! Silverfox

I'm not very knowledgeable on the subject, but have you tried "forceaspi" ?

Yep, that's all you need to do, the aspi install from adaptec will not allow you to install aspi without adaptec hardware installed in your pc. Forceaspi "forces" the installation to take place.

http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/sup...dkey=ASPI-4.70
http://aspi.radified.com/ http://radified.com/ASPI/forceaspi.htm You name it, and I have tried it, and so far no luck at all! I did revert back to the old 4.60 aspi drivers and the aspicheck utility and nero info tool utility shows they are now in my pc installed properly, but they are really for win 95 thru 2k, I believe and not for WXP. I also found this fix on the net. and will try this, but I dont have much faith in it either. 1. Check you previous installation * run ASPICHK (included in the aspi_v471.exe ) * if WOWPOST.EXE or WINASPI.DLL show up and you are running winXP then search for those files in your windows directory (inc subdirs and hidden files) and DELETE them they are not needed for aspi on XP. 2. install ASPI 4.71 ( or later ) from adaptec http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/ drivers_by_product.html?sess=no&cat=%2fProduct%2fA SPI-4.70&prodkey=ASPI-4.70 Use the INSTALL.BAT to install after unzipping to make sure the correct files only are installed. 3. Windows NT/2K/XP MUST have these reg keys added if they aren't allready, otherwise some apps ( EAC, audiocatalyst, CDRWIN )wont show any aspi devices at all : [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\ASPI32\Parameters] "ExcludeMiniports"="" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\ASPI32] "ErrorControl"=dword:00000001 "Start"=dword:00000002 "Type"=dword:00000001 double click the included .reg file to add these if you are not experienced editing the registry, as the adaptec installer currently doesn't set all of these up, this is the source of everyones problems. 4. reboot. This has worked on EVERY XP/2K box I've tried but, if it still doesn't work, try changing "Start"=dword:00000002 to "Start"=dword:00000001 in the .reg file then run it again, and then reboot. Yakumo www.clan-unreal.com When I place a disk in either of my drives the pc is not communicating with either one, and nothing happens! I cannot install anything from the drives PERIOD! Also I cant get any of the settings to function that comes with the Creative audigy 2 sound card,[ EAX console, speaker settings, etc. etc.,] These drivers are driving me crazy! Ha! Thanks for any guru help!

Just out of interest, are your drives showing in device manager and/or bios?

First off Download this http://home.earthlink.net/~necrosissmb/aspi.exe
Find the "aspinit.exe" file, use it to install. Now make sure you check it's installed via "aspichk.exe". Next you do the reg file "FixNT2KXPAdaptecASPI.reg". Reboot, you should be all done. |

In response to the previous threader El Kapitano
I looked in the Device Manager and under[ DVD\CD-Romdrives] all my drives are LISTED, but they are surrounded by a YELLOW CIRCLE with an EXCLAMATION ! by each one of them. I have no idea how this happenned and what to do to get them recognized again? Necrosis, should I continue on with your suggestions are step back with the Device Manager problem FIRST? Thanks so far, and hopefully I will get this resolved with all of your help! Silverfox

Look through your control panel/administrative tools/event viewer/system error logs, see if it's a recurring issue. The event number'll allow you to do a search for a solution.
Otherwise go with Silverfox's suggestion what have you to lose? |

I would also recommend you try uninstalling your drives reboot; then let windows re-install them prior to doing the update.

Do you have itunes installed.
Have you checked the cables? Are they on the same IDE channel -if so split them and try them one at a time. Perhaps try another cable. Uninstall the drives and reboot windows should see them and reinstall drivers. Perhaps try a creative driver cleaner if you think the issue is related to your loss of sound card drivers. Hope these help.. |

Are you all saying just shut down and unplug the drive cable connectors, hook them back up and re-boot?
No I dont have Itunes in my pc and I never did anything to corrupt the creative drivers, as when I run the diagnostics tool utility that is in the creative software audigy 2 package, everything checks out O.K. and passes all the tests, hardware , software, and speaker sound emissions. Nothing in my system error log files depicted anything related to the drives or driver issues I am having. Thanks for any replys!

No, go into device manager, right click on the drives and choose "uninstall". Click ok and reboot the pc. It should find the drives and reinstall the necessary drivers when windows restarts.

Here are the four drives highlighted in yellow in the device manager:
1. AXV CD/DVD-ROM SCSI CdROM Device 2. GENERIC STEALTH DVD SCSI CdROM Device 3. LITE-ON DVDRW LDW-411S 4. MATSHITA DVD-ROM SR-8588 I have not tried your suggested uninstall and re-boot as of yet, due to some following articles that depict folks having similar problems as I and uninstalling and rebooting did not apparently do them any good. Here is the first article that is just about exactly the same problem I have: I am getting the code 39 http://computing.net/drivers/wwwboard/forum/4325.html Here is Microsofts solution to the problem, but I cannot find but one entry in my registry depicting the string they tell the user to delete. Microsoft says to find the upper value and the lower value! All I see is a lower value with the string they say to delete! http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;EN-US;314060 If you dont mine and when you find the time could you look over these articles and give me your opinion as to what you think I should try first? Thanks for any replys!

Well, I finally got it fixed!
For any of the other folks that may encounter this similar scenario in the future, these two sites below will explain the quickest solution to resolving the device manager not recognizing your cd-roms: http://www.roxio.com/en/support/kb/e...e6000150.jhtml http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;EN-US;314060 I could only find the lower value in MY registry, so I just deleted it and re-booted the pc and the problem was fixed! Before I deleted the registry string which had elbys clone dvd and clone cd tied to it, I deleted both of those programs and then deleted the registry string and re-booted! I do install and uninstall alot of various apps like quite a few folks do and I am sure during one of the uninstall process`s or programs conflicting with one another caused my havoc! Now all I have to figure out is how to get my Creative Audigy 2 settings to once again function properly. The sound card is working allright with the 7.1 speaker set-up I have, but I cannot access any of the parameters, such as the Eax console, speaker settings, media source, or even when I put a music cd in the drive now and click on it to play in the creative media source player, just a similar blank format comes up on the screen! Any suggestions on this problem would be appreciated. I installed the audigy 2 card over a year ago, and I cant even remember what I did with the software disc, I thought came with it! Thanks for all he suggested help and I have always received plenty here at this forum when I need a 2nd and 3rd opinion on problems!
