pioneer dvr 107d or liteon 832s dvd writer
I have been offered a swap to a Pioneer for a megre sum, I just wanted ot know what you guys thought was the better drive. The liteon is an overclocked 451s but it does Dual Layer and 8x '+' writing, but not 8x '-'. Any thoughts would be great

I'd go with the liteon... there's a review here that also has specs... which shows that it does have 8x writing for both DVD+R and DVD-R.

its just through where I work, we need a burner for our main system and I was offered a swap to the new drive if i wanted it. as i said though, my drive is a 451s overclocked to an 832s so it doesn't do 8x minus writing. i thought the liteon may be the way to go, 9GB on a single DVD sounds pretty good to me

The Pioneer is generally reckoned to be a BETTER writer, with far wider media support (or more to the point, better burns on a wider range of media) than the Liteon.
The limitations of the Pioneer - uses Zone-CLV mode for CD as well as DVD (when most others write CD in faster P-CAV mode). Cannot overburn CD (neither will overburn DVD) Not much use with Safedisk protections. Not supported by PI/PIF error scanning programs (eg. Nero CDspeed). No DL support (though at the price of DL, no great loss!) As a straight DVD Writer, the Pioneer is superior, but depending on your requirements, it's better paired with a Liteon CD Writer. If you're happy with the 8x +R results from the Liteon, and the possibility of using DL media, stay with the Liteon, but if you're sick of haviung to buy typically more expensive media than the Pioneer would demand (eg. the Pioneer is about the only drive that can burn Princo DVD - the Liteon would never make anything other than a coaster of this low-grade media). The golden rule of Liteon DVDR - LITEON MEDIA SUPPORT SUCKS! |
