Guys,
I went out today and bought a new Motherboard and an AMD64 3200 CPU, as well as some PC3200 ram to go with it. Imagine my shock when after putting it all together the thing would not post, everything would come on briefly, but then the power would go off, by that I mean, press the on switch and the fans start etc, but then everything would power down. I am now totally beside myself, I have checked and re-checked all of the connections and as far as I can tell all are good. The MB is a Gigayte GA-K8NSNXP. I did not get as far as connecting any peripheral devices, just the RAM, CPU, Video Card, CD-ROM, and Hard Drive, intending to make sure that all was well before finishing it all of. I would be most grateful for any suggestions as to what might be preventing it from posting. The case is the same one as my old system is in, and am now using that to post here, so power etc. are all right.

PSU is a 450Watt, and is powering this ASUS A7N8X-X I am using now. What PSU would be reckomended for the Gigabyte board and the CPU?

It sure sounds like a short to me since you're not getting to post. I would advise you to take out the mb/cpu to ensure nothing is shorting on the back. You also might want to check the processor for any damaged pins and/or any TIM where it shouldn't be. In checking your CPU you will also have to check to make sure the heatsink is mounted correctly too. It might just be going into thermal protection because the heatsink is poorly seated.

Well not too sure what the problem is, suffice to say that all the gear I bought today will be going back ASAP.
