i currently have 512 & want to upgrade to 1 gig. i an running a at 1 ghz bus speed.(2.4 @ 3.0). i have heard that populating all 4 mem slots can decrease your overclock. any experience/knowledge would be appreciated. mb =p4p800.

i have done the same on other chipsets too. but some chipsets/mb's have problems with large overclocks(running at 250 at 1:1) & having all 4 slots populated.
so i am tring to find members experiences/ knowledge of overclocking with all 4 slots with the 865/875 chipset before i order the ram. bty, thx for your fast responses guys.

best recommendation is to look at the manual and it'll state what speeds or size of modules in how many slots.... (some stupid manuals don't tell you enough... all they say is "untested")
use that as a possible guide...

my mb fully supports using 4 sticks. just not sure if running all 4 slots with a 25% overclock on the mem controller is suported.

Be sure to check ASUS' site to see if the memory modules you're going to order will work together with the other 2.
Update: Here's the PDF with all the recommended/approved memory modules for the P4P800. Be sure to update the BIOS as well. I've never had to look through it, since I don't have DDR400 memory. Go DDR333!

no style. asus is a little behind. i also checked out intels density/slot recs & anandtechs excellent review on density/slot population. luckily for me they were using ocz w/asus board! i did not want to go on that alone though. necrosis gave me a 'real' user experience.
thx for your input. bty. using ddr 500. GO!

well, installed & here are the results! -
sandra: band- before, 5601/5618 after, 5714/5677 arith- before, dry 7007 wet2446/6178 after, dry 9086 wet 3739/6633 multi- before, 14030/21949 after, 23044/33014 sysmark02: before, cpu 7510, mem 9441, hd 1266. after, cpu 7490, mem 10104. hd 1195 aida: before, write 1549, read 5264 after, write 2104, read 5315. so that is what going from 2 x 256 to 4 x 256 can get you. noticed a slight increase of 2-3 deg on my chipset. & had to lower tmings from 2.5-4-4-5 to 3-4-4-5. so nothing major there. also shows me that cas is probably one of the least important timings. jmo. there is also afew bios tweaks & a sp2 install betwwen these #s. have not done any gaming yet but swithcing between progs & general use seems slightly smoother. of course this could be my desire for a tangible improvement to justify my $$ outlay.

As long as you can maintain the OC, that's all that matters. The improvement appears to be right on the money as well. As for general usage smoothing, it could be due to the fact that you have MORE RAM now as well
