Upgrade from PIII 500 to Celeron 1.3ghz?
I have a Dell XPS T500, and am just double checking with you smart guys at DH to see whether this upgrade will be possible.
Keep in mind that these prices are in CDN dollars. Here is the slot 1 adapter I plan on using. The processor I would use would most likely be a celeron 1.3ghz (100fsb) for ~$50 shipped (used). Here is a listing of compatible computers for the product. My Dell XPS T500 is listed at the bottom to be compatible. Any thoughts on this? Is it worth it? This machine is my dad's main rig right now, but he's buying mine in the spring. From then on it will be used mainly for digital photos (possibly editing in the future?). One more question; will the psu support this? Here are the system specs: PIII 500mhz 512mb PC100 ram Western Digital 40gb w/ 8meg cache CD-RW DVD-ROM 200w foxcon psu GF2 of some sort

The Intel Celeron 1.3 GHz is a Tualatin core and after reading the info on the Slot 1 adapter, it should work since it supports the Tualtin core.
The PSU should be able to handle it.

You will be alright with that adapter, and the psu should be fine. Too bad your ram is only pc 100, hopefully it'll be able to oc a bit for you, cause the tualatin cellies are nice clockers
Even my 1.4 oc's nicely and would go higher if i had a better cooler.

That depends on the motherboard. If the motherboard allows you to adjust the FSB, then you're in luck.

Oh, well there's no such options in bios. Actually the bios options are quite slim. And that's the only way to OC it right? The hardware "jumper" overclocking ended in the PII days?

I'd suggest looking in the manual for any FSB adjustment options. If there is one..
