Globalwin Silentstream WARNING

Ok, I know it's only an "entry level" water cooling system. I'm warning you all now though DO NOT BUY THIS STINKING PIECE OF CRUD!

I've had it for less than 3 months, the motor for the water pump is already shot and I've had 5 random shutdowns in the past 2 days playing doom and cs with it. Also makes ungodly noise kinda like having a mouse in your computer along with a really loud water cycling noise.

I emailed globalwin and have yet to get an intelligent response from their main taiwan office or US office, not to mention I called their US offices in hopes of a possible RMA or at least to make me feel better. No, instead I ask to speak with someone in support, first told "uhhh, they're out to lunch". Fine, called back an hour later "uhhh, they didn't come in today". I ask him why he's either lying to me or why do you not know where they are. I'm then told "uhhh, he had a doctors appointment today". He also couldn't speak english very well which is fine until you add in the fact THAT HE WAS A TOTAL MORON! This is after expecting to hear someone answer the phone and say "globalwin how may I direct your call"......NO, all I get is "hello?". WTF kind of company answers the phone "hello" ??????

Thats why i would look at reviews, someone else had to of had trouble with this since it was so bad especially with customer support. I would probably build my own, going w/ the best stuff no matter what as water cooling eeeeeeeeeek scares me

See thats the thing though, I DID look at a ton of different reviews....at least 10 of them. They didn't include any factors like this though, nothing about the company. Stress tests of the unit, longevity(which I know would be tough/impossible to judge).

Believe me though, I did a ton of research on this thing before I got it. I just got a response back from the 3rd person I've spoken with @ globalwin and said I can RMA it saying they'll "check" the pump and if it's broke(which I know it is) they'll fix it.

Still don't know if I trust putting it back in though, not worth it seeing as I'm going to get an Athlon64 soon...well hopefully at least. Cut my fingers up pretty bad taking the old HSF out the first time......slippery fingers + sharp edges = OW!

anyways, if you're going to a different socket, no, don't bother as the HSF won't fit anyways

Yeah I'll end up taking a hammer to it someday, thats all it's really worth...even with an RMA number.

You might want to take a look at the Koolance Exos. I know that a lot of the watercooling 'snobs' like to look down their noses at it, but it's good enough that Alienware is using Koolance parts, and BFG is using the GPU block for their 6800U

I've used one since they first came out, and I'm very happy with it. Had it on a 1.2 tbird, and now on my sig system. The new waterblocks have compression fittings now, and that sure made installation a lot easier.

Since my #1 son is going off to college, I got a Koolance case, and put the 1.2 tbird in it, and it is working nicely too.

Yeah that thing looks pretty nice. I checked out the hardocp review of it.

If I do end up getting back into water cooling, it won't be for awhile. Not until I get a new processor at least. Hopefully a new case with more room too. I've got a regular compaq case that I use and it's just tiny, barely any room for anything in it. I hate it.

Another thing I'll never do: buy a prebuilt computer.....
