These close objects could be a great reason why the monitor struggles

just tried it on 72, no buzz and the picture does fit better. as for the sub, i cant move it any place. the cord that connects the sub to the control panel, which also connects the audio from my comp to the speakers, is so damn short i almost stretching it as it is.
if this is whats causeing the problems, then after 5 years i dont think i have to much to complain about. this monitor has sat here next to that freezer and band saw for the last 5 years, and i also had a much smaller sub on here that entire time. i wouldnt blame these problems on my new system, since these were all things that were starting to go wrong when i had the old stuff on here. just to show you guys how much space i dont have, heres a couple of pics of my work area. exscuse the mess, i havnt cleaned the area in some time. ![]() ![]() incase your wondering what that huge chunk of wood under my desk is for, its a support for the monitor. this little desk is made out of press board and isnt meant to hold a 90Lbs monitor. if the speakers you have are anything within 4 years.... recent... and are PC SPEAKERS... don't worry about the... the sub will be fine anything over a foot away....(you just don't want the sub ratling the hell outa your monitor)
as for the other forign appliances... those could be causes all hell to break lose... also remember that at a lower refresh rate.. you are more suseptible to interferance.. (high frequency tend to break through alot of interference) Have you attempt 90hz? 100hz? i don't want to break your monitor.. but depending on the size of it.. and resolution.. you might be able to attain 90hz at say 1024x768.... which might be able to fit the screen in all right.... To fix the 85hz issue with the screen... i think you may be able to somewhat help it by using your video cards control panel and adjusting it there... sometimes it works.. sometimes now.... but other then that... you can do nothing but take it to a shop to get the tube recalibrated and probably thoroughly degaused (some shops do this anyways) You may even be having heat issues cause your rainbow effect... (banding).. compared to the how it looked when you first got it.... what does it look like now... and don't look at the front.. look at the sides and top.... tell us if the casing itself has for example..... gone a bit golden gradually more and more from bottom to top.. (if the case was white).... it might look a little more brown then gold.. but it depends on the air and coniditions.... Some freezers/fridges can really drive a monitor nutz.... but if it guts in and doesn't effect it.... it probably isn't harming anything.. OR the harm has already been done..

well ill be damned, i never even knew you could adjust monitor size through the video card controler panel. i just turned this thing up to 90Hz and was able to stretch the screen out enough to cover the entire area. thats a pretty handy little tool, i think ill have to remember that one from now on. as for the color of the actual monitor, its uniform throughout, dirty beige from top to bottom.

That might be color drives related... but i'm still thinking either interference, serious need of degausing.... or the monitor got hot....

im not positive, but i think this thing might have gotten pretty toasty about 9 months ago. i had a magazine build up ontop of my monitor that you wouldnt beleive. i know it really killed the air circulation up there. dont know if that could have done anything or not.
after just running my hand along the moniter, there are some places that are warmer then others but no place is hot. |

Y'all sorted it? Sorry I couldn't get back sooner, I had to work late at the WD store last evening (2nd job...).
What you were likely experiencing was moire effect. Happens with monitors only at specific combinations of refresh rates and resolutions and is generally faint and occurs in a pattern like the one you showed (nice drawing - got the point across perfectly). It is the picture tube equivalent seen with your eyes of the audible squealing problem you heard with your ears. Changing the refresh and resolution to a combination that eliminates both the moire and the audible squealing is a trial and error procedure, so first check for an adjustment in your monitor's menus that you can use to adjust for the moire by itself. Generally, magnetism from a nearby device will make a blotchy discoloration in one portion of the screen alone - not a pattern like what you had. Although I have seen magnetic interference from hidden electrical lines in walls nearby cause discoloration in a pattern like what you showed, and turning the monitor 90 degrees minimizes it.
