Well I have a Samsung 753 DynaFlat... Although its old (bought it in 2001), I think its still a great monitor.. When I upgrade Q2 of next year, I know I will switch to an LCD. Takes up a lot less room, great viewable area, lightweight, and uh theyre effing awesome... Hopefully by then they'll have the 9ms LCDs readily available

I think those are 'misprinted' bud. They are definitely listing only the rise (or fall) of the crystal but not the total time like all others. I bet those are 12ms and they are trying to screw people over. 8ms is the next step but those wont be out for a few months.

I currently use a viewsonic 95f+ and am just shopping for an lcd. I came to the same conclusion, that here I was comtemplating upgrading my video card that can play all games with a monitor I don't really like. But in Canada at least 19" and bigger lcds are not cheap.

yeah, I too am waiting for the next gen lcds with sub 10ms times... the 2001fps are very nice, but they still blur a little to me, not that much that I would care, I just am not in any real rush to get one, (My dads 191t is darn good as well, not quite as fast, but $200 cheaper )

You have to rank a monitor up there with the CPU & Video Card.Geez, the monitor is what tickles youre eyes and in turn they tickle youre brain.I have a 22" NEC Mitshbishi Dimondtron CRT & a 20" NEC Mitsubishi MultiSync LCD that has refresh rates up to 75 Hertz.

Whenever possible, I try match the quality of monitor to the video card. The CPU actually doesn't matter near as much to me when considering the monitor. The quality the video card can give you is limited by the ability of the monitor to display it.

Even a $50.00 video card can display a great 1600x1200 image (a Radeon 7000 or such), but you've still got to have a really good monitor to see that highly detailed image in all its glory. I guess I'd have to rate the monitor the second or third most important component in the entire system.

I find monitors to be extremely important, it's the one thing you always keep looking at so when being a pc-addict as i am, one really needs a good monitor.
glad a lot of people seem to agree, when i bought a 17" crt for 400+ euros everyone thought i was mad.

Zardon (or anyone else), I'm trying to get portrait mode to work automagically when I rotate my 2001FP. I just downloaded the latest Catalyst drivers for my 9800Pro. Is the monitor supposed to do this by itself or do I have to always change it manually?

I don't find the screen as important as all of you say! Since I hate CRTs I only get LCDs and the GOOD ones are way more expensive than any other piece of the PC!

My theory is, since the monitor, keyboard, mouse and speakers are the only parts of your computer that you ACTUALLY interact with, they should be worth somewhere between of a third and a half of your total system cost (though I think half is a bit too much). I think that spending less than a third is a waste of the goods inside of your case.

monitors are very important. What good is a blazing fast system at 60Hz and 800x600 with awfuls mearing all the time?

get a nice big fat one that could swallow you whole *typing on a 21"*

Great how people love to draw extreme comparisons. Here's one from the other end: what good is a $1000 monitor on a 286 with on-board graphics?

Any way, I agree a monitor is a very important part of your setup, but not thought about as often as other things. Similar to tyres in that respect.

And just to throw my hat in as well, I have a 21" Trinitron, and it's lovely. Was a bit lovelier on Windows 98 though.

I am happy with my $200CAD 17" monitor. I dont really think anything larger is nessecary.
