you have to set it to passive and let the app choose the server.the best way is to actually download the bios file and update with the option to do it from the download location.good luck

ps:also you have to make sure that you use the latest version of asusupdate, not the version from your retail asus cd,thats probably a year old

Never use the Asus flash tool that lets you flash it from Windows... Press Alt+F2 on the boot screen (POST) to go to the flash screen.

On the first screen when the computer starts up, its shows the big Asus thing, and at the bottom it says Press ALT+F2 to enter Asus flash utility... or something like that. That's the best way to do it.

The problem with the Windows flasher is that it always messes up, and it has its problems as well. It's easier, and safer, to do it the ALT+F2 (POST) way.

hey mythical, the problem i have with this is the fact that it is actually the bios recovery console,i have never tried this method but most likely it does not have the ability to save current CMOS settings of your old bios.if your running custom values in most of your bios settings and you are overclocking your cpu gpu and all memory timeings and voltages, and you have a raid config, this could be a pain.until i have a problem with my current method im not going to change.im not arguing im glad there is other ways to do things, thx for the info.later

I used the ASUS BIOS update tool....

to update the BIOS on my Alienware machine....All it says now is that it wont read the drive. It's dead in the water! It looks like it updated the BIOS but now it wont come up.

hawgshead, that is bad,the original post was for a p4c800e deluxe, the reason i told you to use asusupdate is because i have the same mobo and it has worked for me three times now on this motherboard.alienware uses there own version of hardware even though it might have the same model number as factory.YOU SHOULD HAVE LOOKED IN YOUR ALIENWARE MANUAL TO SEE HOW THEY WANT YOU TO UPDATE THE BIOS,AND MOST LIKELY THEY ALSO HAVE THERE OWN VERSION OF BIOS ON THERE SITE.you need to restore your old bios,im sure that alienware has a failsafe of some sort just for this type of thing.but i dont know what it is,i would call alienware if you cant figure it out from the manual.you shouldnt rush to do things, two different mobos, probably two different ways of doing things.good luck

Alienware does use 'custom' BIOS versions with thier computers that are developed and validated in conjunction with the motherboard vendors themselves. They don't recommend flashing the BIOS on any system without a technician's assistance. At this point if the computer fails to boot up I would suggest contacting their support staff.

For future reference you may contact their support for upgrading your BIOS; normally you would need a valid reason to be updating the BIOS and they'll be able to assist you. The ASUS Update utility in Windows is also a good tool as you can download the BIOS from Alienware's website and then use the util to update BIOS from a file on the hard drive (the downloaded BIOS file). In most cases with a BIOS update you should clear your CMOS values to avoid any issues; but yes this causes you to loose your BIOS settings.

hey hawgshead, that is good your up and running again,if you dont keep your existing bios setting during a flash and you are running raid it will happen every time,i did the same thing on my first flash after setting up a raid array.were you able to use an asus bios or did you have to use an alienware bios.sorry if i misinformed you about being able to use asusupdate on that system.all i really know about is how i have flashed the p4c800e deluxe board succesfully.later

The ASUS BIOS worked. But it was supposed to be the one that lets you change the multiplier from x16 to x14.But the option is not there.I'm wondering if it only lets you change it only on Prescott CPU's???
