XP not detecting modem
Hi
I formatted a friends HD and installed XP. (Was running 98) Now XP says the modem drivers are not present. There are no driver disks for the m/c. I think the modem is a Giga-Byte. I can't seem to find any drivers. If i re format and reinstall 98 will this solve the prob. Sorry if i am being a total noob ![]() The system is about 4 - 5 years old Fatto |

Try upgrading to the latest service pack and also run Windows Updates to see if it can find a modem driver. With any luck XP will be able to find a specific or generic driver that'll work with the modem. If not then you might have to trace what type of modem it is with the manufacturer of the computer (if it's an OEM machine).

reverting back to 98 will most likely not fix the problem.....
i'm serprised though, NO matter what i've thrown at XP.. it has always found a working driver

do you know the SPECIFIC name/brand/model/FCC of the modem? might be able to do a search for it and see if other people are having issues with that modem

Thx again folks.
I used Unknown Device Identifier and the modem came up as Giga-Byte Technologiies. Have trawled their site with no luck. ![]() The computer is 4-5 years old but i would guess the modem would be 56k. Sorry for the sketchy info but that is all i have. |

lol wow i've had this problem before.
Okay man one thing you CAN do is download "SP2 For MULTIPLE computers" (this is very important you want the one for MULTIPLE COMPUTERS!!!) and burn it to a CD and then bring it over to your friends comp. upgrade off that. then the drivers should work out for yah. Im with judas on this one though. This is VERY weird. Its never had a problem finding modem drivers for me. O_o
