Reccomendations for 19" CRT monitor?
My current 17" imonitor is almost 7 years old. It's held up running windows and games in 1280x1024, recently the screen ocasionally shifts horizontally for half a second, I notice it maybe every couple hours. Also in the color temperature settings I can set it to 9300, 6500, or 5000, but when set to 9300 everything is green. It works good, but I want to upgrade to a larger 19" that supports higher refresh rates and resolutions. Also the color display in games is very important, by observing my friends compuers at LANs its clear that the monitor can make a big difference in visuals.
Anyway, I don't have all that much free cash so I was proably going to try to spend $250 or less. The only monitors I have currently considered are the Viewsonic P95+b: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...116-232&depa=0 It was attracted by it due to its extremely high refresh rates and resolutions and it's suppossed to look good in games. With shipping it costs $275 however. The G90fb is the next cheaper 19" viewsonic ($220), it has lower resolutions and refresh rates however, but its optimal resolution is still 1600x1200@77 which is still probably good enough, as 1600x1200 is the maximum resolution I will probably ever use anyway: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...116-282&depa=0 I wanted to consult the knowledgable people at driverheaven first, and see if anyone had any reccomendations. Oh and I know its not a motherboard\cpu\ram question but I didn't which other hardware board to put it on. |

I've also heard good things about the NEC FE991SB
http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduc...h&ATT=Monitors $270 with shipping, still a bit expensive for me, and it doesn't have as high of resolutions as the P95+b which is $275, but it's suppossed to be top-notch, also Alienware includes this monitor in their bundles. |

i have a viewsonic p95f+ 19" and it has a nice/sharp picture with that quick switch thing for brightness which helps out nicely for vividness in movies/games. its also pretty easy to see in daylight.

Go to some different shops, compare the 19" 's,
check out which one you like in view and price, then base your purchase on that, noone can advise in this, except for the brand maybe, although these days there are no really bad CRT's anymore. Its your eyes who have to look at it all day.

samsung, nec, and sony have the best tubes imho, and sony supplies the tubes for ibm, dell, and i believe SGI as well.
if you want a nice cheap monitor, hit up www.azatek.com and get a 'grade A 19" CRT" you won't be dissappointed....I'm on a 21" trinitron(IBM p260)) that i got for $225 with free shipping |

thanks my monitor has started flashing horizontal lines in windows occasionally accompanied by chirping noises. I decreased by desktop resolution slightly so hopefully it will last until I can get a new one. Also Lchevy79 the .20 dot pitch is probably horizontal and not diagonal, so its misleading as dot pitch is commonly diaganol.
1100DF is 21", I think I'd have to get a new desk, and it's just too expensive for me. Here's what I've got (includes shipping $ if from newegg): SyncMaster 997DF $212.48 (best buy w/ tax) Dot Pitch: 0.20mmH (Prob .25diag) Max / Optimal resolution: 1920x1440 @ 65 Hz / 1600x1200 @ 76 Hz http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...001-166&depa=0 ViewSonic G90FB $220 Dot Pitch: 0.25mm diagonal Max / Optimal resolution: 1920x1440 @ 64Hz / 1600x1200 @ 77Hz http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...116-282&depa=0 NEC/Mitsibushi $270 FE991SB Dot Pitch: 0.25-0.27mm aperture grille Max / Optimal resolution: 1792 x 1344 @ 68 Hz / 1280x1024 @ 85Hz http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...002-037&depa=0 ViewSonic P95F+B $275 Dot Pitch: 0.25mm aperture grille at center Max / Optimal resolution: 2048x1536 @ 68Hz / 1600x1200 @ 87Hz http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...116-232&depa=0 I live in St. Louis area, no Fry's Electronics here. Mainly Best Buy, Circuit City, and CompUSA. I'm leaning toward the SyncMaster 997DF, its $212.48 at best buy w/ tax. It seems like the most bang for the buck. Plus I had to get my car repaired recently. Then again I was interested in the Viewsonic P95f+b for its Ultrabright mode (I think the NEC one has something similar as well) which suppossedly looks amazing in games. Also that AZATek store doesn't have much veriety for 19" monitors, they all have like 1280x1024 optimal resolutions or out of stock, and I don't want a 21" monitor because A) it wouldn't fit on my desk and B) I don't want to haul something that big to a LAN. So I'll either just get the 977DF or splurge for either the NEC or Viewsonic p90fb+. Considering my 80gb hard drive is full and the mobo running my 1800+ athlon xp only supports AGP4x, and my 512mb ram isn't quite enough, I might go cheaper as I'm thinking about grabbing an Athlon 64 eventually. Then again the monitor will probably stay a long time, as it will practically never get outdated compared to cpu/graphics and will probably end up lasting through several upgrades, so I might be better off int he long run spending mroe money now. |
