Hey...

You can go to www.dell.com with your service tag number and check in the support area for everything having to do with your particular laptop. Often, the list of components will show the brand of optical drive that was installed in your particular unit, as well as the type of processor, among other things...

Very nice lappy!

CPU-z will be able to tell you the core of your processor, and system proerties -> hardware -> device manager will tell you what kind of dvd burner you got (my guess is Sony)

my guess is that in a dell you got a sony burner, as every dell i ever took apart contained sony optical drives

also...stock clockspeed of 3.4GHz is a prescott, i can almost promise you., I'm pretty sure the northwood capped out at 3.2

...and of course it's easier...i'm a lazy sot, so I know the shortcut for EVERYTHING

so they do...i stand corrected...and knowing this, i also agree it's a northwood....nobody in their right mind would put a prescott in a laptop if a compairable northwood was available

Actually you were probably right on your first assumption, its more than likely a prescott. I am after reviewing a Dell inspiron 9100 which was supplied with a prescott 3.2ghz. Any new model from Dell will be using a prescott as Dell work closely with intel you do the math. Do they use a prescott because they are faster? nope, its a newer model and intel want to push them, thats why. Dell are one of the only makers capable of creating a chassis and cooling system good enough to cool them btw.

Nice laptop btw, the burner will be either NEC or Pioneer.

yes but that was a newegg link from another member correcting PJ who incorrectly said Northwoods stopped at 3.2ghz not the guy who bought the dell.

anyways....thats a schweet rig ya got there, and those mp3 'vaults' (when you pass a few gigs its no longer a player, its a frikin vault) are very nice toys indeed...you shall have great fun!

i know what you're talking about bud

they made me wait for over a month back then

anyway,

sweet laptop...

i would have taken that one too but i chose the 8600 series for their portability, weight & longer battery capacity

as for the DVD Writer i'm pretty positive it will be a NEC or Pioneer as Zardon previously stated...

mine comes with a NEC DVD+RW ND-5100A...

just keep us posted
