What would be the best desktop computer?

i would like to make my own playing rig !
but i am not sure what i want to do...
what would be the best component to use ?

there are a lot in my mind... but for example i am not sure that using a pci express slot would be good... i dont think that it will become a standard like AGP!
are they gonna create some AGP 16x slot ?

blah i am a puter n00b...

so any help is welcome

right now...i would say somewhere along the lines of a fx-53, 6800UE/X800XTPE. but you could go ddr2 and get memory that has way more bandwith.

How much money do you want to spend?
If you want a gaming computer, you would do best with an Athlon 64 with a Radeon X800 series or Geforce 6800 series graphics card.
But we need to know how much you want to spend, and also if you are biulding a computer from scratch.
