Upgrading
I'm currently looking to upgrade and RAM seems to have gone way up, DDR that is, 1GB 4200 specifically, I'm switching to an A64 platform so I need to grab a mobo and processor as well, I'll be getting them as I have money per part, but I wanted to get RAM first cause I can use it now and migrate it over later, but it's so expensive, think this price will go down or should I say screw it and grab a mobo and or pprocessor A64 3000+ winchester now?

for AMD A64 machines. lower timmings are better than high RAM. best is PC3500 to PC3700. u will get best performance using PC3700 with tight timmings. the prices on the mobos and processors wont really lower at all for now.

I want to be able to push this as far as I can on the tighest timings, would 3700 give me higher FSB at lower cas than 4200? Or even equivalent FSB with 2cas?

most high speed 3700 is i think 2.5-3-3-8. and 4200 is usually 2.5-4-4-7. so there are differences. and pc 3700 will get atleast to PC4200 speeds. i got these timmings from OCZ ram that i looked up at newegg.com

yes but... alot of high PC4000+ can say when running PC3500 speeds.... have a hell of a lot lower Cas/Timings...
i'm shooting for 2gb of OCZ Dual Channel optimised Gold 4400 stuff... and i'm hoping.... still considering mind you... but hoping that when running 4000, it'll spit out 2cas or even 3500 speeds.... 2cas...

if u get 3700 with EL chips u can run over 240 FSB at 2-3-3-5. and that OC on a new A64 is pretty nice. i cant get any higher than 235 fsb. so any higher ram is a waste.

How much money do you want to spend?
Take a look at this article, for some high-end stuff: http://www.anandtech.com/memory/showdoc.aspx?i=2226 But let us know if you want to spend less. You can certainly use your current RAM for the time being, and see if prices drop later.
