i have a EXTREMELY high doubt..... but it wouldn't shock me if it was... as all the connection would be on the CPU itself.... but the silcon... hmmm....

The dual cores are suppose to be compatible with socket 939. The Dual core P4s are supposed to work with the socket 775. you might just need to do a bios update. this is all speculation at this point, though.

Hey, there's gonna be another core in there. I would think will require additional (almost twofold) pins...

Thanks for the links MiDKnYtE
I hope they will clarify or make a statement for that point. It is nice to see that you will be able to upgrade easily as they are not releasing any overdrive component like in the old days

I would worry about the heat. 2 cores = 2x heat. You probably have to upgrade the heatsink. AMD might pull a rabbit out of its hat and provide a copper heatsink with heatpipes, but I wouldn't count on it.

Heat density would be the same, though, since you're adding contact area also. And most people wouldn't have both cores at full load too often anyway.

That's true, but you would need to design the heatsink to work under full load conditions. It might not be exactly 2x the heat, but it would be more than just a single core at full load. Then again, if they downclock the cores it could be near the heat of a single core. ack. it's just too early in the game. I'm sure more info will be coming down the pipe.
