Hard Drive Question.....

In my Alienware machine I have 2 Raptors in a RAID 0 & also 2 WD Caviar's in a RAID 0{That I never use}If I take 1 of the Caviar's out of the Alienware system and put it into my home built system would I have to rebuild the Raptor RAID 0{In the Alienware}?????And would the leftover Cavier in the Alienware work OK?{Would it need to be rewired or anything like that}....Thanks guys!

the raptor array would be fine, but you would lose your data on the WD array. RAID0 makes both drives act as one, so ripping it in half would kill the array.

you would also be required to destroy the RAID 0 Array on your caviars before you attempted to install it on another computer.... as alot of RAID controllers imprint information on the drive so that it is recognized as raid and not just another hardrive.....

But yeah, like midknyte said..... pretty much it

I truely HATE messing with RAID's!I guess because I dont know how to fix them when they go down.

your raptors are fine, but you may have to re-wire the remaining caviar. is it run directly to the mobo or to a raid controller card?

if it's raid, run as JBOD mode
