help! sata/raptor detection problems

my 74gb raptor arrived today, along with an ide to SATA converter i ordered. i hooked up both HDD, and put the raptor on SATA 1 and the 200gb converted to sata on SATA 2 on the mobo. now, nothing is running on IDE except for the dvdrw, which is put on pri_IDE.

When I go to install windows, it says there are no hard drives installed. low and behold, the BIOS detects nothing but the dvdrw and the floppy drive (which doesnt work btw). everything should be hooked up fine, but it doesnt show up in the bios.

I tried messing with the IDE settings in the bios, like the native ata mode and such, but nothing seems to work.

help! i just bought half life 2 and cant play it!

are you sure you have the right SATA settings in the bios? did you set it to boot to SATA first? when you run the winxp setup, did you use the f6 option to load the SATA controller drivers?

ive got it detected now...the only thing i changed was unplugging the HDD that had the IDE to SATA converter on it. I'm not quit sure what the problem is with the converter, but if it continues to give me problems i guess ill have to go back to IDE on that drive . hopefully neon cowboy will see this thread because i know he has used the converters before.

SATA isn't faster than IDE yet, so putting the drive on IDE wouldn't hurt performance. The interface is just one aspect to performance.

what do you have the IDE drive jumpered as? Did you try cable select?

it turned out to be the jumper on the IDE drive. I had it on cable select, but apparently it has to be on master/single for the adapter to work properly. thanks for all the suggestions
