ADSL problem...

Yes, you're not dreaming, I've another question...

I'm using a 1 Mbit ADSL internet connection, but I only can download @ 25Kb/s (don't laugh

) ...

Soemone told me that it was Windows which is slowing down my internet connection, but I've my doubts...

I'm using an Alcatel Speedtouch external ADSLmodem, connected to my SMC Barricade 7004ABR router by an ethernet connection (with RJ-45 connectors), there are two computers connected to the router....

Suggestions?

i have the 576k connection from bt and had to change the MTU to 1458 and the RWIN to 14000 to get things smooth.i now download at speeds of 50k plus at all times.
please go to http://www.dslreports.com/tweaks and run the tweak test.the results of that test show which settings to change and what to change them to.
first try setting your MTU to 1458 as mentioned above and dont forget to reboot then connect and see if that helps.
i found keeping the RWIN below the MTU gave maximum effect.

just in case you are not sure..

MTU= maximum transmission unit

RWIN= receive window

ther is a link at that site to download drtcp which will help you tweak your settings.

Download speeds vary depending on the medium and the server. Medium = kaaza then BT throttle the download speed. Server = crappy then there's not much you can really do about it. Try downloading a large file - say XP SP1 - from http://www.microsoft.com and see what speeds you get
