Apparently my Ultra X-Connect 500 Died...
Anyone have an issue with thiers yet?
issues that popped up before it just didnt want to work... First Internet Explorer would freeze without warning, and i would just continue to drag other programs down until you ctrl+alt+delete and end the processes... strange... never thought anything of a PSU.. next, i had noticed that the smell of the psu had change from a NEW smell to a hot smell... and it wasn't bad at all ... just figured that it just still had the new smell going... This morning i was woke up by my sister.. i had the PSU in her rig as i figured it would draw more power then myserver due to having the following: Barton 2500+ @ 3000+ Abit AT7-MAX2 Radeon 9800 Pro @ 415/370 1 hd 1 dvd-rom 1 PCI sound card a few dozen usb ports in use etc. Problem: Computer wouldn't even start to boot.... hit the button, nothing, no lights... zilch... Pull the cover off.. flip the switch at the back.... hit the power button, and the fans would spin up for 1/4 of second... then every time after it wouldn't even spin the fans up at all.... flip the switch at the back... hit the button.. 1/4..... then again nothing after that no matter how many times i pushed the front button... Unpluged everything but the ATX main connector... no go... put out my 350 watt hook it up with just the ATX and instantly fired up.. tried the X-Connect again... zilch.... Put the xconnect and hooked it up to 2 other machine.. same results... one thing i noticed.. when the switch at the back is flipped on.. the leds and lan on the motherboard power up just fine... and stay powered without the computer being actually on..... so it's kinda strange... Looking at all the cables and everything, it appears fine.. looking inside the best i could... fine... but i also noticed that with just the switch one... i could feel the psu would get warm rather quickly and just stay like that..and it smelt hot without it being on for hours... rather upset, i've never RMA'd anything and it looked promissing.... Tech support through Ultra is amazing still... but hopefully there isn't a huge issue and it's just a faulty one.. gotta go find everything and box it up now.... not to serious... but reasonable compared to the 350 watt enermax whispers i have... I had put it in her machine about 36+ hours after i had gotten the PSU so any chance of condensation from the cold weather we had at the time would be gone....

Thats scary, especially since that was the next PSU i was going to buy. Now im not sure, all of these OCZ power supplies look great. It sounds like it is an isolated incident, as everyone else still loves theirs, so I assume they're working fine...but it does kind of make you wonder.

I've only had that problem on cheap psu's. I know that one isnt cheap probably just a bad one. Hopefully your rma is hassle, free good luck with your next psu.

I ordered the OCZ 520 and had to return the first one because as soon as any lead was attached to a radeon card it would instantly power down. I got a replacement and it works like a charm, very stable rails under load which is nice.
