Vampy...me and a friend concocted a 1300 watt 13.3 setup one night viea the wonders of cable splicing.(2 logitech THX 4.1 systems and a klipsch promedia 5.1)....yea...the with those 3 subs the room smelled of ozone b/c the bass was powerful enough to stip oxygen atoms off in the air

As per your testign Z, have you played with the THX panel yet? Also....in the EAX Panel under CMSS...what setting do you have? I use stereo myself at about 25% rear since is it so close to the front channel.

EDIT: nevermind....had a mental lapse...yer using onboard sound

Those options arent available on the intel 7:1 cmedia control panel, but im happy with the balance. ive an audigy 2 laying around and while the stereo sound was a little better (marginally in this weird shaped room) than the intel 7.1 the movie side of things took a dump.

I might look into the Audigy 2 ZS professional setup after xmas, right now im happy.

The Audio sampler disc with the audigy 2 ZS is nice. dvd audio certainly gives some amazing results if its mixed right at the source.

I went looking for some dvd audio discs and see some stuff from the 70s, like Queen, a night at the opera. Ok lets get real here for a minute, that is one kick ass album but no matter what clever tricks they employ with remixing etc, i cant see how it could possibly test or show DVD audio to its full.........

Probably not done for audio quality, but more for having surround sound (assuming it's a surround album). That'd be my guess.

but if you have an audigy and the s750s you can upmix it to surroudn sound on the fly

that is wierd allan...I reccomend you just play with the EAX and THX panels to your liking and stick with high quality MP3s or raw CD/Wav audio

DVD-Audio is mroe of a gimmick then anythign else as NOBODY releases pre-mixed DVD audio...it's all 're-mastered' standard CDs mixed onto a DVD

Actually im not sure thats true, on the DVD audio sampler there is a male voice audio sampler and there is a picture of the recording with the guys all standing in a circle and the microphones positioned in various places in the centre of the circle, the sound quality and positioning is quite incredible, even if the material isnt quite what I would normally listen to.

Yes most of it appears to be a gimmick and it hasnt really "taken off", but ive been impressed with some of the samples that have been recorded correctly at source, very high quality.

Hey Zardon, and anyone else with the Audigy 2 ZS, for the best sound with Dolby Decoding, if you have good speakers, make sure to disable "Dynamic Range Compression" from the Audio HQ settings.

When enabled with good speakers, it can easily compress out 25+ dB of range in movies and such.
