150W connector for PCI Express

The PCI-SIG has released online a document called « PCI Express x16 Graphics 150W-ATX Specification 1.0 ». The specification is aimed at high-end graphics applications that require increased power. It defines a standard power connector to meet the growing needs of power-hungry graphics engines (up to 150 Watts) in an ATX environment (the BTX version is still currently in development). The PCI Express is « only » able to provide 75 Watts to the graphic card via the PCI Express 16x pins power supply.

For this additional power connector, as it is impossible to download this document without login and password, we don’t know if it is a 6 pin power connector like the one used with the current X800/X850 and 6800 PCI Express graphic cards or if it is a new connector.
